Contests rigged? And other stuff...

Occasionally I enjoy watching Made-marathons. Some of the things they get to do are funny. However... Somethings really bug me:

* When they want to be made into for instance a prom queen, cheerleader, skater, well basically anything that they can prove themselves through a contest, they almost always win. It makes me think that it is rigged, as if a nerdy nerd who never danced in his life can all of a sudden be good enough in just one month to win from kids who danced their entire life.

* There is always the same change in the show: From 'yeah, I'm going to do it', to 'Mweeehh, I don't want to do this', to the coach saying : 'he/she is not ready yet', to 'yeah he/she won'.

* The kids almost always whine when they don't want to do what there coach tells them to do. "No, I don't want to pitch a tent, mweeehhh.".
Eeeeven when the kid is nice and compliant, like that girl who wanted to be a surfer girl, but went shopping for just one afternoon. The next day her coach was the one who threw a hissy fit.

Always so much draaaamaaaaa.

But still, great fun ;)

What I see is that SOMETIMES they win, and SOMETIMES they don't. I don't see a clear-cut 'they win all the time' in these episodes. Although I agree that there has to be some sort of rigging going on. It could be more of just 'HEY IT'S MTV! VOTE FOR THEM AKA. ME!' type of thing going on in those who vote.

I agree. Has there ever been an episode where the teen worked real hard with no complaints? Even if THEY don't complain and do all their work their coach will still bitch for no reason, because it's good TV.

I think some rigging probably happened in some cases especially the prom or homecoming episodes. I noticed more that in the episodes about making teams, dance squads etc not all of the participants made it.

MTV clearly rigs other parts of the show. I mentioned this in another thread but the episode about the Sidhant the brainy kid who wanted to be a football player seemd to have some parts of it staged. In that episode he goes to the Football University camp. I think MTV paid that camp to include him. FBU camp is top notch camp that caters to kids who have the potential for college or the NFL and it is an invitation only camp. Most of the instructors are people who have played or coached at pro level. There is no way that some kid like Sidhant who never played football at any level could show up at that camp.

I totally agree. In the dance team/sports teams episodes the coach is reluctant just to name somebody to a team to make it a happy ending for MADE because they know that they have to deal with that person the whole season and if that person can't dance or play basketball then they will make the whole team look bad. Prom/Pageants are a one shot deal.

I think some of the people who made it onto teams seemed to have potential to do well on a sports team. I remember the gay kid who wanted to be a baseball player only made it on the JV team and he seemed to have some talent as a ball player. Out of all the sports episodes, I think he was the one of the few Made kids who could do well on a sports team.

There was an episode in which a geeky band girl wanted to make the basketball team. She was kind of short. I think at most she was 5"2. She really didn't have the stamina or the knack to play basketball well. I have seen people at that height who are pretty good basketball players because they know how the game works and they have good stamina for it. I remember the Made coach seemed pretty doubtful about her and in the end she didn't make the team.

As for the dance team episodes, Brittiny the alopecia girl didn't make the dance team. Again I think she didn't make it because of a lack of experience. There was another dance team episode which took place at high school in Miami and I remember the girl in that episode didn't make it. The only girl I remember making a dance team, was the one in New Hampshire who made the step team which is different from a dance team. I think that girl had a lot of raw talent that helped her out.

As I said before more rigging probably happens with the proms and pageants. Most people will be ok with some who isn't popular winning something that only lasts a day. I think coaches of sports teams will likely think of the well-being of their seasons or performances rather than giving someone a happy ending.

Well, most of the "athelic" coaches are meatheads who think they are better than anyone, and see less those who are.

That is why usually the episodes where kids and coaches get along, are those where they do fun activities that dont' consume much time nor clash with other activities of life.

Suppousedly muscles and martial arts are to give discipline, but usually the teachers are meatheads (not all) who just want to intimidate. Still serious training can take your entrire life and time, but dismiss other things in life.
