Does anyone know if and where a copy of Terry Oldfield and David Pash's sound track to ISOTW may be had? I am especially interested in the lyrics that the chorus sings--I strongly suspect that it is an adaptation of the opening lines of the Illiad but I would like to know for sure. By the by, this film is the gold standard of historical documentaries. Even Ken and Ric Burns momumental work in its thoughful introduction of scholarly views has been informed my Michael Wood's engagement of the viewer. Fine stuff.

I wish I could help you with this, but I have been looking for the soundtrack as well and I cannot find a copy. I don't think it ever has or ever will be released which is a shame.

ah well...

I wanted the soundtrack years ago.

It is a shame; the opening was magnificent; it is a shame not only that we can't find a copy (and I've looked everywhere) but that it is not widely known and appreciated.

I remember watching the series on PBS when I was in junior high, maybe '86 or so. I was so obsessed with the music that I set up a tape recorder in front of the TV. Actually I got a lot of TV and movie music that way. Buckaroo Banzai and Red Dawn come immediately to mind. Anyway, I bought the DVDs a couple years ago but still never found a soundtrack album available.

Tonight, I got inspired, and Google was my friend. Composer Terry Oldfield has the soundtrack album on his web site. It can be downloaded track by track. I just bought it. The closing theme with the chorus and the solo trumpet is titled "Epitaph". It's probably bad form to link it directly, but just Google the guy's name and Epitaph. His web site URL is the same as his name.
