Is this worth getting

Best Buy has the entire set for $32. Is it worth getting?

reply

If you like other stuff from Go Nagai I would say for sure. I just finished watching the whole series today and I loved it, I do think it's worth the 32 bucks.

I'd say no.

I recently finished watching the series, and the ending ruined it for me.

Jun's best friend, Kazumi, is dead. Also, Jun lost her arms in the final battle. The final shot of the series has Jun walking away, wearing a trenchcoat, her arms clearly missing.

Yeah, Jun survives to the end of the series, but...with no arms. She might as well have died.

Needless to say, her career as a model is over.

Also, her hardships are just beginning.

It's an ok Anime but nothing that I would shell out big money for. Not saying it's crap but some things could have been better, and some things have already been done before. Rent it first.

The anime drops the ball on you. Don't like the characters' settings a bit.

As one who read the manga, I'll say it's way~ off the story. I would really like to see them putting the manga straight into anime even though it would be pretty controversal.

reply

I'd say 'no' as well.

I'm a huge fan of the original devilman, but this production is just terrible in comparison.

Which one is better between Inuyasha or Devil lady?

reply

Inuyasha has over 150 episodes & 4 movies & devillady has 26 episodes?
you can't compare them... but I'll tell u this. devillady is a good horror/drama anime that is fun to watch on a rainy day.

I spend a weekend every other month watching the whole series in full (big fan of go nagai's work) as for inuyasha... I'm a big fan of takahashi's work also but it's a daily episode type of thing with inuyasha (soap opera).

Cant find the manga anywhere.

The one review to-date (by countgrisnackh) seems to be from someone who gave up half-way, which unfortunately is something of a low point in this series. This series rewards those who carefully watch certain characters with respect to playing fair with the audience.

I can agree with the remarks in the review with regard to everything but the audio. I'm semi-fluent in the language so I tend to use the native soundtrack where available. I have no idea which audio track was used by the reviewer, so I cannot comment on the English language track, but the Japanese seiyuu cast do a good job. Miss Iwao's work is particularly good; she has the opportunity to exercise a great range of voice work which she does very well.

Some cursory research seems to show that the manga and anime are related by implication, more-or-less. The manga and anime seem to have a lot of differences flavor-wise. The two only share the setting and a few characters, and those only by name.

Probably obvious, but this isn't necessarily one for watching together with young children either.

As long as you don't have to deal with the above two issues, I think Devilman Lady a reasonably worthwhile buy.

I'd say buy it. I mean I bought it at Best buy for $32. You are getting an entire 6 dvd series for the price of a little than one dvd normally. If you rent the entire series, it would cost almost the same, so why not for like 5 bucks more just buy it. Hell, if you dont like it, maybe you can unload it on some one else.

Although, rent it & try recording it onto a tape. Its an older show so, dvd quality video doesnt really make that much of an improvement.

If you can, try & track down the individual dvd releases. They come with four cards each. Nothing special, but for the same amount of money, you might as well get as much as you can. Plus those complete collection cases suck.

If you can find fansubs, just watch those. The Devil Lady, in my opinion, has the worst dubbing job I have ever seen on an anime in history. The extras are nothing special, unless you enjoy the classic ADV formula of: Trailers, Art, Songs
