I don't read comics. Will i understand this movie??

Does this movie require knowledge of the comics in order to be understood?

In this particular case I think it absolutely helps to have a familiarity with the genre in general. In many ways Watchmen deconstructs the "comic book" genre, and to fully appreciate it you need at least a basic grounding in it.

But really all you'd miss are some of the finer points. The broad strokes of the story are part and parcel to any drama. I think what you likely missed in BvS was due to a lack of familiarity not with the genre, but the mythology of those two particular characters.

No, I don't read graphic novels, yet I love this movie. It helps if you're familiar with the superhero genre, though. If you know your Batmans and your Captain Americas you'll be fine.

My (then teenaged) son loved this movie and he'd never read the graphic novel (he has since). He was however very familiar with general superhero lore, types, and convention which definitely helped him appreciate it.

It will make you interested in the Watchmen comic, but no knowledge from it is required to understand and enjoy the film. You will have some unanswered questions that do get answered in it. But the best order is watch the movie first. It always is...

I think they played this one pretty well so it stands alone.
