Another reason for the murder...Spoilers

Leaving a sick husband is not so easily done, In fact i thought that is why they[She more so] wanted/agreed to kill him. She would have felt just as guilty if not more because he would suffer from her rejection for the rest of his life. This may have been harder for her to deal with knowing he is suffering. I also felt she actually sort of missed him.

My thought was her significant line when Laurent asks her how it felt to be alone in bed, and she said she hadn't slept alone since she was a little girl. I think she liked being alone. She liked remembering when it was just her and her parents, before she had to live with her aunt and sickly cousin -- and share a bed with that cousin and be responsible for him all the time and give him medicine in the night. She thought she wanted Laurent, so she wanted the murder, but then she felt happier without Laurent.

You make a great point,....But as we both saw it differently I put another spin on your last line to read she was a nurturer, she missed that, but really did not feel it until after the death. Laurent did not need to be taken care of. She needed to be needed. That was what was drilled/forced into her head[sort of like a mild Stockholm syndrum,] With the death it was gone. Remember her husband was not really all that bad as a person. Killing him was more of actions taken so he would not suffer from her betrayal. It's her responsibility to minimize his suffering. He would have fell apart after they leaving him. This to me is why they just did not run off and why it was so easy to kill him. This is just another opinion and I like yours as well.

It was so refreshing to read both of your opinions, instead of attacking one another as almost everyone seems to do nowadays.

I just finished watching this movie and I like both of your opinions, thank you for sharing.
