Wasn't the roll of Grace played by Margaret Cho? I could have sworn that when I looked at the page a while back, it said that she was Grace and her love interest was Gale Harold.

No. you were mistaken. Fay Ann Lee (who wrote this screenplay and the short on which it is based) was always cast as "Grace." Margaret Cho plays a friend of Grace's.
