DVD?

Any ideas when is the DVD getting released? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks!

reply

2/9/10 is the plan for the release of the DVD.

reply

Considering how poorly the movie was received, I think "never" might be too optimistic.

reply

My guess is that it will probably be ready for pre-order in December. YES--finally!!

reply

The date was changed to 1/12 but it seems as if that date may be being changed as well.

The DVD Will be for sale on the FFG Web site and is now available for pre order from CD Universe.

It will also be available for rental from Netflix. You can put it on your queue now.

From Pat

Hi guys

Pat here, As a follow up to the above post, I got an email from Fay today and this is what she said and I think it will make folks smile concerning Gale. here is the email to me.

Hugs
Pat

Hi Pat, sorry for not getting right back. I've been so swamped with a variety of
things. Officially, DVDs cannot be purchased until March 9 except from our
website (which will change and be announced tomorrow- preorders will begin by
x'mas) on the website. The release date has not been bumped up. DVD is only
available for rental starting Jan. 9th but certain places may advertise
pre-order. However, they can't ship till March 9th. So, I think whatever site
you're talking about is a pre-order as well.

However, please encourage all fans to pre-order from our website for the
following reasons:

1) We are offering some fun bonuses with every purchase.

2) And when they do purchase, they automatically get enrolled into a contest
where they get to win fun prizes, including memorabilia from the movie.

3) The opening price of the DVD is $24.98 - this is a price that I cannot
adjust. It's the distributor's call - which is why i'm offering bonuses to make
it more worthwhile.

4) They should also buy from us to support the producers of the film. We get a slightly higher margin if you buy from us directly. We still have to purchase the DVD from the distributor to sell on our website and the cost is high.

5) If they purchase from us, they will get the DVDs on or before Valentine's
Day. DVDs aren't available to ship till 2nd week of January (but ours is the
first place you can actually get the DVD from).

Yes, please push fans to buy from us only. It is also what Gale wants. He's
supporting us by giving us signed DVDs and photos for the contest.

Thanks Pat so so much for all your help and support. We will brainstorm after Christmas.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

Ok, if I understand correctly, the DVD is availabe for rental on Jan 9. If we were to pre-order anywhere else, we would not receive it until March. However, if we pre-order from the site, we can have it before Valentine's Day.

(I want to get it as soon as I can. I cannot wait to see Ken Leung in this movie!!!)

CD Universe is claiming they they will have it available for sale on January 5th but I dont know if its true.
Ken is great in the film!

Hey Barbara!

Thank you so much for your updates and information. I haven't been able to see the movie, so you can imagine my excitement. :)

reply

CD Universe contacted me to say that the DVD is now on back order as the release date has been changed. But it didn't give me a new release date.

Oh well...

My wait continues...

reply

A friend of mine heard from them also. I think the problem is that the demand was much larger than anticipated.
Their new date seems to be 1/12

reply

Mine went out on the fifth as promised, and I just received and watched it. The movie is even better than I remembered from Tribeca, and the DVD is high quality. I played it on my up-converting Blu-ray player, and even though the movie isn't in Blu-ray it looked great on my giant flatscreen. I have a surround sound system, and the soundtrack is great too. The movie has deleted scenes and two commentary tracks -- one with cast members and one with crew members. I think people who stumble upon this DVD in the video story looking for a romantic comedy will have a very pleasant surprise.

The Prescott Film Festival kicks off the 2010 film series on Wednesday, January 20th, with "Falling for Grace", a romantic comedy with a dash of Chinese-American culture. The movie will have its Prescott Arizona premiere at 6:30 p. m. at the Yavapai College Performance Hall. A short film and and guest filmmaker will be announced soon.

I think they will have a pleasant surprise too. I always thought that Gale will get his biggest exposure with this film.

Of all his indie movies, I'm sure you're right.

Here is the Email From Fay about FFG DVD Distribution Companies
Hi Everyone

Okay here is the email I got today from Fay about the different places distributing FFG. She has not mentioned the overseas distribution, but I will remind her again if there is any news on that front.

I have one small request for me, If you have other questions please post them in this FFG LJ so I have all the questions in one place. One person was upset that I had not asked a question she had asked to Fay. But it was posted in a community and I missed it Sorry!! :(

I try to catch all the questions posted everywhere but I might miss some if they are in communities. I do have a Yahoo account and belong to the Yahoo groups so I do see those questions since they post to my email address.

I have been posting the emails here in this LJ and then directing folks in communities and my LJ back to this Journal. I know the information is posted in Barbara's Yahoo group and she posts it on IMDB if I have not had time to get over there to post it.

I really appreciate all of you supporting this Film and pimping it to others. Thank you all so much. So now on to Fay's email.

Hugs
Pat

Re: FFG DVD

Hi Pat,

Thank you for all your questions from everyone, I am trying to answer them as I can. Perhaps you could pass this along in hopes of answering some of the questions. Thanks, Pat

1) The distributor is Gaiam, Inc. They dictate the pricing on the FFG website.
We were not allowed to sell FFG for less than $24.98 to start, because that is
the price sold to the rental channels prior to March 9th. The actual street
date of DVDs is March 9th at which time our prices will drop as well, but all
bonuses will be taken off the table.

2) CD Universe shipping out early is most likely a violation of their agreement
with Gaiam. I have notified Gaiam about it. I have no control over what other
distribution channels are doing.

3) Because we had to sell FFG at $24.98, I wanted to add extra bonuses to our
DVDs - for eg. the ability to possibly win extra items signed by Gale (I know
may be fun for many of his fans). We had hoped that fans understood we wanted
to give them a little more for their money.

There are agreements between the distributor (Gaiam) and outlets.
Unfortunately, in the world of internet business these days, many violations of
that contract occur. The street date of 3/9 was supposed to be honored by all
outlets. Our website should have been the only place that early delivery was
allowed (by Valentine's Day). I wish the system could be perfect and that
businesses can be honest, but apparently, that is simply not the reality. This
is bad for the producers of FFG specifically, but there is nothing I can do
about it.

All I could hope for is that folks support Falling for Grace through the
official website. I realize that most of the people that you are speaking for
are Gale fans. I certainly hope that his fans would support independent
filmmakers as much as he does -- which is why he agreed to sign certain prizes
to promote the DVD on the official website. The independent filmmakers, like
myself, will never be able to compete with huge conglomerates like Amazon or CD
Universe. Obviously, they can do whatever they please to maximize their profits
and undercut smaller businesses, in this case, the generous investors of the
film - the ones that make roles like these available to wonderful actors like
Gale. But no doubt we are at a huge disadvantage.

We have promised on our site to get the movie to our wonderful supporters by the
week of Valentine's Day with all their bonuses attached. We will certainly
deliver on that.

Obviously everyone who worked on the film did it because they love working and
support independent films. Gale has continued to invest so much energy in this
because not only does he believe in the project, but he has become a great
friend to me. However you intend to purchase Falling for Grace, I am grateful
that you want to see this film.

Thank you for your suggestions, patience, support. I hope your road to "Grace"
comes through our website :)

Warmest Regards,
Fay Ann Lee

Hi Everyone

I hope you all are enjoying your FFG DVD's that are arriving in your mailbox now. LOL!!! Although I had a screener copy of FFG on DVD, Fay sent me a copy of FFG too as she was sending all of yours out. She sent a nice note, the film strips and it is signed by her and Gale.

I have just received a short email from Fay answering questions and giving info so I thought I would get it out to you all tonight. Here is what she said:

Hi Pat

I am sending this quick email to answer the questions and give you some information.

In answer to the question:

"Can you please ask Fay about the sales of FFG for European distribution that she announced at the Asia Society event?"

"I believe our sales agent has sold to a few territories in Europe for
television - Italy for sure, and a few others but I'll have to find out from
sales agent.

In answer to the Question about Pay Pal:

"No paypal payment.

FFG will open in NY at Big Cinemas on 59th Street between 2nd and
3rd Avenues on Friday, March 19th." I will announce on the website by the end of the week. It is Weird but true.

Fay
