MY REVIEW (WARNING: NOT A HAPPY ONE)
About a month ago, I went on the Califonia ROTM. I posted about it on the 'Mummy Returns' board, and I just found this board! Here's my review...
I'm not the roller-coaster kind of person. I don't like going upside-down or even sideways. I prayed that ROTM did not have any of these factors.
Fortunatly, I found someone who worked at the ride, and asked her what the ride was like. She said that it went 35 mph, and that it only had a few light bumps and didn't go upside down (The ride IS indoors).
Good, I think. Nothing to worry about.
I get in ROTM's long line, and finally get inside of the roller coaster's building.
Inside, the walls are decorated to look like an ancient Egyptian tomb. There is also the Book of the Dead prop from both 'Mummy' films, and you can touch it. If you do, Imhotep's voice is heard reading the awakening spell.
Inside the next room (Just another line), there is a screen that shows an Egyptian princess (Probably Ank-Su-Namun), and also a hooded woman (I think it's a woman) that looks just like Darth Sidious from 'Star Wars' (Old, white face, black hood, eyes hidden in shadow). The old woman says how Imhotep will rule the world, and how his curse will kill me. There are also scenes of Imhotep from the films.
Finally, I get to the ride. I get inside one of the carts, and look in front of me. Although I am in one of the middle carts (There are about 12 carts connected), I can clearly see a sinister black enterance to a dark room. The carts start to move slowly. The ride has begun.
The ride takes me and the rest of the crowd around a corner (We are still going very slow), and we enter a dark room full of mummies coming alive. Hanging from the ceiling are linen-wrapped arms, swinging back and forth. The ride moves on into a beautiful treasure room, golden Egyptian statues and other things litering the floor. We then move into another brightly lit room, and standing on top of a ledge is Imhotep himself (In mummy form). He tells us about his curse and his plans for the world. Then he shouts that he will steal our souls...
The carts, in less than a second, speed to what feels like more than 35 mph.
We speed down a slope, then up, then sideways, chaos, wind...
And I could have sworn that we went upside down at least once.
My eyes are closed, I feel a headache coming. I try to open my eyes, only to see a green laser projection of Imhotep's undead guards on the roof. We speed down again, then sideways...
I close my eyes again.
One minute later, we suddenly stop.
It's over! I think happily. I open my eyes to a stone wall.
Uh-oh.
The carts start going backwards... then we speed up again, going throughout the entire ride again backwards!
By now I hate this ride and am furious at the woman who had said that the ride wasn't that bad.
Two minutes later, we stop again. I open my eyes. We are in a small, brightly lit room that shows the eclipse scene from 'The Mummy' on the wall. The old woman's voice (From the movie-thing in the line) says something about the sun being devoured by darkness.
The cart turns around, we slowly move foward. Two clouds of fog surround us, and we arrive at the ride's boarding room. The restraining belts unbuckle, and I quickly get out of my cart.
That was terrible! I think. It was a full speed roller-coater, and no matter how much of a 'Mummy' fan I am, that certainly was not worth it (Remember, I am not a roller-coaster kind of person).
I was not the only one who did not like the ride. A woman in front of me was crying!
The gift shop, 'Tomb's Treasures', wasn't that great either. All they really had was hats, shirts, Egyptian statues (replicas), and toys for the little riders.
Now, my opinion toward this ride is only an opinion. If you have been on this high-speed terror and liked it, then by all means, like it.
Isn't there a Mummy Returns ride in Florida? Not a ROTM, a Mummy Returns. I could have sworn that there was. I haven't been there, but isn't there one?
Also, who is that hooded woman in the introduction video?
"Lord Vader... can you hear me?"
A sinister silence.
"Yes, Master."
