Xavier is a D**chebag

Why was he so nice and interesting in the first one, but in the sequel he is always snapping and lashing out and just being a general a**hole throughout the movie. I was so happy when the friend that was staying over punched him.

reply

Yea, he easily earned that. He came across as such a chauvinistic a-hole at times, speaking to women the way he did. And in this instance he was simply and idiot for thinking he'd get away with it in a house full of lesbians!

It's kind of a shame that he came across as more boorish in this sequel as Xavier can be quite likeable. I would have much preferred to see the character developed more in that lovable, playful direction.

"Hey, how come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up...we'll all get up...IT'LL BE ANARCHY!!"

reply

*beep* the lesbians. Who are they to control how people talk to others? Xavier yelled at women when he got pissed off, just as he did with men. You can't have it both ways. Either you accept your role as a homemaker without too many decisions in life, and treated the same way as you would with a child OR, you demand equality and with that comes the experience of being yelled at every once in a while. That lesbian moron was being extremely hypocritical, trying to uphold rules from a society that wouldn't even accept her as a lesbian.

reply

To be honest I thought he was kind of a dick in the first one, despite being outwardly friendly, which was a large part of why I couldn't really get behind the movie.

I mean, are we really *supposed* to sympathize with some aimless twenty-something that knowingly seduces a married woman and then throws a tantrum when his own girlfriend back home cheats on him?

He's just an overgrown child, and from the sounds of it the sequel is more of the same(ish), minus the supporting cast that was actually likeable.

reply

Better question is... how is he getting all these hot women?? kassia the black chick, wendy, celia, etc. I mean wtf? He's an average looking guy with little money and he writes scripts for tv for a living. On what planet does he get with a supermodel like celia?? ah french movies... love and hate em at the same time.

You guys realize one of the main points of the whole movie is HE IS SUPPOSED to be a dick. That's kind of the whole point.

Xavier is a guy who is dissatisfied and uncertain with where his life is going and this affects his relationships with women. He's not a dbag. He genuinely cares about the people around him in both movies.

reply

No, he is both. He is a guy that does care about the people around him but he does put his own internal interests ahead of others. He is a jerk. Pavlyuchenko had it right, the point of the movie is he is a selfish jerk. But he finally understands he is a jerk and he is wrong for what he does. You can see they didn't want to make a movie about likable perfect people hooking up with other likable perfect people. That's why they kept mocking corny pulp romance stories.

reply

I don't think he's selfish, he looked after Audrey Tautou's kid for three days and is there for her.

He was extremely annoyed when she wouldn't leave and everything was building in his head about having a relationship. So when Tautou didn't leave he snapped even though he told her to get out she refused.

And as far as the poster saying he deserved to be punched is a bit extreme. Unless someone is violent themselves they don't deserve physical attack. If a woman is being verbally abusive does she deserve to be punched hard enough to leave a nasty black eye?

Bauer vs. Bourne, that is the question.

reply

I am the OP and that is my old account. I never said he deserved to be punched, I said I was happy when he got punched. There is a difference. He was being a huge jerk and it did make me happy.

I agree. It's a relief to see such an intelligent reply.

Thank you very much.

You're making the assumption women are shallow, that they only base meeting with men on looks. I've heard beautiful women have a hard time meeting people; guys are too shy to ask them out. Sometimes they can be lonely. Of course I have only heard this. Most of the beautiful women in my life got disproportionate amounts of attention and tolerance from others.
