how??? did they do that

I kept thinking the young Steve looked sooo much like Sampson that it must be Elden Hensen's little brother. The credits came around and it said both parts were played by Elden Hensen. How did Elden Hensen play the part of a 10 year old boy and the 30 year old man he is, in the same movie??? CGI??? desertbm

Huh, seems you didn't read through any of the notes on this movie or the posts. The movie was originally made as a short many years ago when Elden Hensen was a young boy. ALL of the scenes where the young boys are in dance school are taken from the 1990 short version. It would have been a much better casting/writing idea (in my opinion) to have Elden Hensen play an older version of the same character as he played in the short. It was distracting to have him play John Goodman as a boy, and then also appear as himself in a different character as a man. That's what I thought anyway.

this is my first submission to the message boards!!! you are right I guess I didn't do my homework. I was so distracted at how much the little boy looked like the man [all Elden Hensen], I could'nt wait for the credits to see if it was Eldens little brother. I was uninformed and startled, thank you for clearing it up!!!

Don't feel bad, I was freaking out because I knew one of those kids was Donkey Lips from Salute Your Shorts. When I checked the credits and freaked out when I saw Eldens for both parts (old Steve, young Steve)

Okay, I get it now. I, too, kept wondering how Donkey Lips now looked 5 years younger than when he was on that show about 12 years ago...

They really couldn't have used him (Elden Henson) to play the older Steven, 40 years have passed in the movie and he obviously isn't anywhere near old enough to play a 50 something year old man.
They could have used makeup I suppose, but I like the natural look rather then the make up route.

yeah, the movie opens with the narrative saying it was 1962. even tho it was shot/released in 1990, only 15 years had passed, so unless Elden's dad was an actor and looked like his son, it was better to go with an older actor. Great jobs by John and Elden, btw.

I do want to ask if one of the girls later appeared on Roseanne. In the Short, She's the blonde girl who looks at the camera for a second as the kids are changing partners (for last time?). I want to say her name was Heather on Roseanne (NOT Heather Matarazzo in s9!), but she's rude, calls DJ 'doofus', likes when he hangs the spoon off his nose, and DJ admits to David that she slips him the tongue, but he ain't telling them (Dan & Roseanne) that!

kinda weird coincidence if that was her, she goes on to guest on ROSEANNE, and then Goodman is hired to play in the extended movie 15 years later!

EDIT: the actress I was asking about played DJs girlfriend "Lisa" on ROSEANNE.

I have just finished watching the movie....which was great by the way...and came to see who played young Steve because I new it had to be Sampsons brother or cousin or something...so I guess I was thinking the same as you...thanks for the answers everyone.
