Stealing a Car in a Prison Parking Lot?

I find it highly unlikely that Steve could have stolen a car in a prison parking lot. Its a PRISON for Pete's sake! There'd be cameras watching those cars!

Aside from that it was interesting to see John Goodman play a character in prison and wasn't Gale Snoakes...He changed his voice in an interesting way.

Yeah it was the least thing i liked about the movie however thinking about it the Prison thing was suppose to be the twist of the story and well they needed some way to show that he was driving without someone else with him. I mean guy gets out of prison has no one to pick him up no money to buy a car and some how hes driving by himself that lead him into a accedent so I figured maybe they thought that was the best way to do it because after all he was in a rush to make it to the dance.

. . . prison parking lots can be fairly large - typically the most full on visitation days - doubt they would let a guy out on a visitation day - but - I gotta tell ya - I know a coupl'a cons who wouldn't think twice of this action given just a few seconds chance . . .

Hours-upon-days-upon-years of fantasy & imagmination, based on any degree of hope make some of these guys really desperate to think it will change their whole life and paradoxically will commit crimes as a means to an end ...
