Kris Kristofferson at awards show

Does anyone know where the footage of Kris Kristofferson accepting the country music award from Roy Clark is taken from? Kris is completely smashed and incoherent as he amples onstage.

This is a great movie with incredible music. Kris and Phil Kaufman are hilarious, and Matt Murphy is excellent as the talented and twisted Guy.

Yeah, this was broadcast on the actual broadcast back in 1971 or so. He won for song of the year for Sunday Mornin Comin Down. Nothing or nobody like that had ever graced the stage of the vanilla country and western music award show before. That was the turning point. Pissed alot of the stick-in-the-muds who NEEDED to keep C&W clean. But actually C&W was a whitewash. You ever read Nick Tosches book called "Country".. Tosches is a terrific writer that I'm sure you've heard of. He wrote The Devil and Sonny Liston, Dino, The Last Opium Den and so on...

Matt Murphy was perfect wasn't he? Shades of Townes and Gram.. Huh?

I love the look on Roy Clark's face when Kris collects the award. Country really needed a good kick in the arse in the early '70s – but not nearly as much as it needs one today! Sadly, the old "new guard" of Kris, Willie, Waylon and the boys are dead or dying – and we have nothing but pretty boys in crisp white hats to replace them.

I shall look for Nick Tosches' book. Thanks for the recommendation! You have superb taste.

Ain't that the truth. I think it's finally too late for Nashville. After all the times the Nashville music scene has risen from the ashes like a Phoenix, it's finally left with nothing strong enough to pull it's bootstraps up with. It's so watered down.. the roots have just whithered away........... Go underground young man! There's still great music made but none of it's played on country radio. There's still an heavy outlaw brigade out there if you know where to look. I suggest you go to the "No Depression" website and check into the indie labels. Lots of Texans. No wonder they want to secede.

Nick Tosches is a fine writer. Yo will truly enjoy his work.

Thank you my dear...

Yes, No Depression's a great site. Too bad the magazine went kaput, like so many others these days.
