Location?

Does any one know the filming location?

reply

It was filmed on location at the Grandhotel Pupp in the Czech republic. Funny thing is, the Presidential suite is €1300a night, not the €3000 stated in the movie.

reply

They said 4000 dollars, not euros. Also, hotel rates fluctuate depending on the time of the reservation.

reply

Watch it again, they tell her in Euros first.

Hey, thanks for the replys. Yeah my friend was in Prague last year and she said that it was wonderful and very inexpensive so maybe that's why they decided to jack up the price for the movie. So it would seem very expensive here in America.

reply

You can check out the actual rates at their website:

It's the opposite of inexpensive, IMHO. But maybe you think that 1300 EUR for one night is a good price:)
Scenes in Casino Royal were also shot in this hotel.

reply

you can see the hotel pretty well on google earth

50° 13' 09" n 12° 52' 44" e are the coordinates

they did the skiing scenes somewhere south in austria

another reason they listed a higher price for the room is to keep up the fact that she didn't care how much anything was anymore.. she was going for it anyway. It wouldn't have meant as much if she splurged for the 250 a night room.

reply

The problem is that she can see High Tatras mountains from her room which is ridiculous since they are nowhere near Prague actually they aren't even in Czech Republic :) I don't know why they did it but they pulled the same stupid in movie xXx with Vin Diesel. Czech Republic doesn't have any mountains like those, the highest hill in Czech Republic is Snezka which is rather small at 1602 metres.

reply

The home page says that the filming was done in the Tirol, Austria and Czech Republic...It looks like it is SUPPOSED to be Switzerland, hence, the high price for the room...there is NO WAY that 1300€ could EVER have been close to $3000!!!! With the Euro about its highest right now, that would be about $1850 US, so...again, standing in for someplace like St. Moritz or Gstaad. And, after all, going for a fictional place, right?

Seriously? There IS a place called the Hotel Pupp???? I thought that was some fictional place, too.

But, then, that's how they DO movies. Did you know that the spot where Julie Andrews spins around on top of the Mountain is about twenty miles or so from the convent they used for Maria to live in in The Sound of Music! And the locations used in Do-Re-Mi are miles from each other, too...it's how they do movies.

As for the view from her window...haven't you ever noticed that EVERY hotel/apartment in Paris has a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower?

It's called "Movie Magic". They all do that.

reply

Old thread but it's clearly visible that (apart from the skiing scenes, and perhaps the base jumping) it was shot on location IN Karlovy Vary. You can Google Streetview almost all locations from the film and it is the Grandhotel Pupp as mentioned above.
