she didn't get a second opinion

I am a doctor and this seems ridiculous that such a serious diagnosis wasn't given second opinion i.e. completely different doctor , new blood work up and mri scan. I understand that its just a movie but surely such a huge plot hole ruined it ,they could have done it differently, perhaps she gets treated at the end or even possibly dies happy cos of her last achievements.

i know they could have used a different machine or she could have went to a different hospital

The first doctor did go with her to another doctor for him to re-interperet the scans. She probably thought this counted as a second opinion. Even though the first doctor couldn't bring himself to tell her it was fatal.

Yea I assume that was part of the reason they had the second doctor in the movie to show a second opinion. Though it's pretty bad when that doctor doesn't try to do another scan to prove it.
But obviously there wouldn't be a movie if they had so makes sense for them to leave that bit out.

You do know this is just a movie, right?

I mean, really - come on people. Yes, there were quite a few things in there that didn't add up, but it is just a movie. It's also not believable that Shawn would travel all the way to Prague instead of just picking up the phone.

But, so what - it's a movie.

Agree with Jones; had she gotten a second opinion, this would have been a short movie!

I also thought the blond-haired doctor was her second opinion.

I am not a doctor but I have been ill with cancer and thyroid troubles and I wondered that myself. I was even thinking, there must have been something wrong with the machine and I wondered why they didn't send her somewhere else to have a CAT scan done there.

Incidedntally, that goes to show you how often they used the CAT scan machine....

If I'm not mistaken the machine was second hand because Dr Gupta said they had just gotten it right before her exam. So they didn't know that it caused the blotches to appear on the films.

Also if you remember it was a hospital with the company she worked for. Her boss was there and didn't even want to pay for the CAT scan in the first place.

reply

I agree. It's a "Romantic Comedy" not a "Documentary".

Sic transit gloria mundi, sometimes Tuesday is worse.

Remember, too, that her company medical insurance didn't want to cover the first CT scan. I doubt they'd have covered a second one. Her medical insurance company's first priority was to the stockholders — not the policyholders.

It sort of defeats the entire plot doesn't it?

I'm a Canadian and it's ridiculous that this woman would have died just bc she didn't have enough money for an operation. I understand it's a movie but the sad thing is that so many Americans die for the same reason in real life.
