What was the ending really about?

I liked the ending to this, but I thought it was sort of confusing, and I have some questions that some kind person may want to help me with;
1) Why would Ling chop out her kidney and give it to Ching to save her life, when Ling was trying to kill her before (by taking out her kidney)
2)Why would she cut into Ching and not insert the kidney directly, but just leave it in the bathtub of ice?
3)At the end, Ching says about how they'll always be together, so I understand how that can link into being 'together forever' but this just invites more questions, like why would Ling really want to be with Ching 'forever' Was it just to torture her (Ching) knowing that Ling's kidney was inside her?
4) Is Ling actually dead, as I saw the movie ages ago and I can't remember if they found her body or not.

Can anyone help me?

reply

this movie was just nonsense
I saw it last night with my sister on HBO and throug all the movie we had a big 'WTF??!!' in our heads..
I mean.. We didn't understand why Ching was being so nice to Ling after she made all those threading calls and slept with her boyfriend
but i will try to answer your questions

1) i have no idea! I guess after all she made a little conecction with Ching. and I think she didn't really wanted to kill her... she just liked to see 'the fear in her face' like she said a couple of times in the movie

2) I think It was a very painfull thing to take out your own kidney.. and she probably didn't had the time or the skills to insert the kidney in Ching (in my opinion)

3)I just think Ling was CRAZY! and Ching has some issues too.. she said they'll always be together before Ling tried to kill her.. when they were 'friends'

4) yes she's dead.. the doctor said they found a kidney that belong to the other body or something like that. and there's a shot her body.

this movie is just crazy... it scared me a lil' bit in some parts but I was more like freaked out

Ah, I think I might understand it a little better now...although the film is still quite confusing...
I did enjoy it though lol
Thanks for answering :D
Anyone else have any opinions?

1) Ling wanted to help her in the first place, but she wanted to have her revenge on Wai first, and also to avenge Keung's death. That's why she made Ching see the edge of hell first before giving her hope that wouldn't vanish.

2) Try to cut yourself with a scalpel and take out your kidney. Let's see if you don't die of shock first. Let's say Ling put a different kidney in the tub, she wouldn't have the ability to do a kidney transplant in the first place. From the first death scene, it is clear that the stitches in the woman's side were very unprofessional.

3) Ling was lonely, and she lost the first best friend she had. When she was pointing the knife at Ching, she did say she was grateful for the friendship Ching gave her. Ling told Ching that whenever she needed help, she could come to her. She helped Keung when he came to her, although they lost contact after elementary school. That just shows how much she treasures friendships, and how much Wai hurt her.

4) Ling died, she killed herself. The last cut scene and last scene showed that. The kidney was from "the body of the deceased," hers. There were only two people dead, Wai and Ling.

1) She did say to Ching that "Life is meaningless" after her mother and best friend died. I'm assuming she tried to kill Ching before because she did mention she liked to see her in fear.

2) I believe she thought it was unneccessary to continue with the entire procedure. (inserting the kidney) And leave a little mystery behind as well for the police to come across and for Ching to come to realization.
(That she does believe they will always be "together", sort of like a metaphor because the kidney originally belongs to Ling)

3) You know what I kinda questioned that myself. I do think she meant it like that. I guess you can descibe this as a "love-hate relationship."

4) Yes, everyone else pretty much answered it.

Great questions!

Though your own interpretation of the movie is what matters most. :)

1) Why would Ling chop out her kidney and give it to Ching to save her life, when Ling was trying to kill her before (by taking out her kidney)
--- Ling lost everything in her life and felt no need to live any longer. But she wanted to have one last control over someone elses life. plus a bit of revenge mixed in with envy.

2)Why would she cut into Ching and not insert the kidney directly, but just leave it in the bathtub of ice?
--- She would be bleeding out to the point where she would probably be unable to do such a thing. When she cut into Ching, it basically forced the doctors to do an immediate transplant on her to keep her alive, thus, she really would have had no choice but to accept Ling's kidney. Unlike what some people say, a person could remove their own kidney with ease if they had the right pain killers available. Given that she had a mother in the hospital for years and a semi-boyfriend who was a doctor, it is a fairly good assumption that she would have access to this.

3)At the end, Ching says about how they'll always be together, so I understand how that can link into being 'together forever' but this just invites more questions, like why would Ling really want to be with Ching 'forever' Was it just to torture her (Ching) knowing that Ling's kidney was inside her?
--- This goes back to the Control again. Not only was Ling physically with her because of the kidney, but she had done things to affect her life to the point where she would NEVER forget what happened. It would all be with her until the day she died probably thinking about it on a daily basis.

4) Is Ling actually dead, as I saw the movie ages ago and I can't remember if they found her body or not.
---Yes.

The psychological depth of this movie is simply amazing and to truly understand what was done here chances are you will have needed to take a few psych classes.

Just to one question...

1) Why would Ling chop out her kidney and give it to Ching to save her life, when Ling was trying to kill her before (by taking out her kidney)

My answer is a little different than others, but I may have misunderstood some things.

At first, Ling did not want to kill her, just take her kidney. Like they said, you can survive with one. When Ling found out that it WOULD kill Ching to take the kidney, she made other plans involving making money by selling Ching a kidney. At the end, I think that when Ling pulled the knife on Ching at Ching's home, the whole plan was to make her suffer for awhile, and then do exactly what she ended up doing (killing herself and giving Ching her kidney). First, of course, she had to kill Wai in order to make Ching's life as torturous as Ling's had been. When Ching fought back, it just moved the predetermined scenario to a different venue.

That was my take anyway :)

she was jelous of Ching's life and wanted to experiance things she had e.g in the scene when they go to that spiritual class she kinda reveals all the things about ching's life she wishes she had and when she talks to wai, therefore having a part of her inside ching is kind of like her living on forever as one with ching and experiencing her life.

hope that makes scence lol

1) i do not think that she intended to harm her in the first place, she used her as an alibi when she was in the same hotel with her.. then she had fun terrorizing the rich - spoiled girl who had everything she never had , people who loved her , a nice home , money .. until she realized that she had the wrong opinion about her and that the girl was seriously ill. then she decided to help her by giving her a kidney that she and her friend hed stolen. But when the friend died ..then she took revenge and helped her the same time. I do not think Ling was a bad person ..she was very bad into taking revenge. She lost her right doing all these.
2 because she was not really even a doctor , she was a student in the middle of the studies. ok she could take a kiddney without harming it. she could insert it and make it work too?

3 because she did not want to be alone. Her mother died and this was the way that ching fiance was abusing and mistreating ling .. he knew her fear of beibg alone so he was keeping her using this

4 yes she is dead..

After they became "friends" It was never her intention to kill Ching, like she said she just loved to see the fear in her face, when she revealed that her childhood friend died because of her, she could have killed right there but she didn't, that's when I realized that.

In my opinion she wanted to see her suffer but át the same time she thought she was a good person and wanted to help her (their promise) and torture her at the same time, it was brilliant.
