Isn't volunteering a job?

I don't see why would working without pay for a non-profit organization not be considered a legitimate occupation?

Would you rather get paid for work you don't care about doing or not get paid for work you're passionate about? And don't tell me that everyone can get paid for what they love doing! Most people would quit their paid job if they suddenly won a jackpot. And I think people many people are jealous and annoyed of those who can afford to do what they love without pay.

No, volunteer work isn't an occupation. If I decide to pick up trash on highways, I can't tell my family that I'm heading off to work.

Typical snobbish mentality that only something that you get PAID for can be called a 'job'

That was the perfect time for Lila to say to him 'well then they shouldn't call them blowJOBS', amirite ladies?

volunteer or
not surly she should have told him before getting married?

You Have to be a teenager right?

You gotta pay your bills. Hence you have to get paid

Personally I only went after jobs I liked and I have a dream job now so yes, living proof here that you can get an amazing job that makes you happy AND get paid

If you settle for anything less - ie unpaid work you like or paid work you hate - it's your own damn fault for not trying harder

I think people are using the words "job" and "livelihood" interchangeably. Someone's job can also be their livelihood but their livelihood doesn't necessarily have to come from a job.

Let's say someone sells their invention or business for enough money to become independently wealthy, she or he could spend 80 hours per week running a charitable foundation which would be their job but not their livelihood.

It's like a type of work experience but I guess overall it's not an actual occcupation since it doesn't actually support you financially.

yeah the problem was she wasn't making actual money
whereas Stiller assumed she had income.

It is, and honestly in the environmental or biological field it is really hard to get a good job without spending time volunteering first. As a botanist, I had to put in plenty of time as a volunteer before getting a paid job.... if you love the field then you are willing to deal with that.

But you should still tell someone you are getting married to that you aren't getting an income from it. And usually while I was doing those volunteer jobs I also worked at things like being a housekeeper to earn some money.

Tough luck, chinless

She was a volunteer that performed tasks. Simple as that.

Anyone that leads someone on to believe they have an actual job when they are an unpaid volunteer has some serious issues.
