Capitalism is the real killer

As horrible of a person as the mother is, the real killer and the real monster in this tale, and in many such tales, is capitalism. The philosophy that people should only care for themselves, or for their immediate families. That is why no one saw these children for so long, or why no one cared enough to really help. Capitalism thrives on greed and selfishness, and the victims are always the helpless, the ones cast aside by society.
