Simply put, this movie should have never existed. Why? Because the world changed DRASTICALLY between 1976 and 2005. SO much of what made the original such a hit was no longer PC enough to be included in the remake.
BTW I was playing Little League ball at the time of the original film. We didn't have Chico's Bail Bonds as a sponsor, we had Dailey's Liquor! (The local liquor store)

Well put. I hate this film for many reasons and you listed a few, and I agree completely with your sentiments. Makes sense. But, the casting stunk, the acting was horrible ( I know it's hard to say that about kids ), they just missed the ball on making it right even with the PC issue.
