Chip Foose is overrated

He always has to customize a car that would make a pimp blush.. I wish they'd get rid of him and just return the car to its stock former glory..

Watch the show from the beginning a few times, he actually sits down with someone close to the cars owner, and asks what the owner would want. He has done mostly stock restos a few times. His goal is to build the owners dream car, not what you think it should be.

He does ask what people like but he takes ridiculous liberties. One girl liked stars so he put big ugly stars all over her Ford Explorer.. I really doubt she wanted her truck to look like moving planetarium.. especially if she ever wants to sell it.. He has gaudy taste.. He can't help himself.. He so wants to be looked at as an artist that he's willing to do the moronic. I've only liked a few cars he's done and they were cars where the people purposely made sure he didn't screw it up.

Just thought you should know that the car community does see him as an artist. His list of awards.

In November 1997, Foose became the youngest person to be inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. Additionally, Foose was inducted into the Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Car Museum Hall of Fame in 2002, the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame in 2003, and the San Francisco Rod and Custom Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2005.
Foose has also won the following awards for his work:
Most Beautiful Roadster Award in 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2006.
Some of these cars were designed by Foose and completed by other builders such as Boyd Coddington, Barry White, and Bobby Alloway.
The Goodguys Street Rod of the Year Award in the years 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2001.
Diecast Hall of Fame Inductee 2009.
Best Hot Rod at Bilsport Performance Show 2011.

Sorry but you may not like him, but your in the minority. Oh he also designed "Elenor", the 1968 Shelby GT500 from the Gone in 60 seconds.

Foose's Team does all the heavy and expensive work in restoring these cars. Final embellishments like the wheel style, height of the vehicle, and car speakers are easily changed in the scheme of things. The real work is in the meticulous metal restoration, rust removal, and body and chassis straightening. They don't just grind out rust and bondo over it. They fully strip the car down to the rolling chassis (this will cost you about $15,000 to do), then either media blast or chemi-dip the body to remove all traces of rust, finally they weld in replacement panels and pieces. Fully blended, curved, and straightened too. This whole process will set most people back over $30,000 at most restoration garages. Most interiors are returned to something close to factory (another $15,000+). If someone in the end didn't like what Foose did to the car from a design stand-point it's minor in the scheme of the vehicle as a restored product.
