Series 5 *spoilers*

What a dreadful story.

Sorry, but when a former police officer goes psycho, walks into a cop shop, and kneecaps one of her superiors before topping herself ... it sort of loses the realism for me.

I mean: how often does that happen in real life?

Also, I realize that she had been through a lot, being gang raped and forcibly used in a porno film. But it was never really adequately explained how she got into that situation anyway.

And what was she doing all by herself on someone's boat? I expected her to be dead.

It's a pity, because the character of Murphy is such a cool cop. Pity about the scripts though.

With all due respect, I believe you are totally and utterly wrong. The scripts for series 3, 4 and 5 have all been excellent. I'm a fussy so and so yet I honestly cannot fault them.

Still, each to his/her own I guess.

I'm not entirely sure we watched the same show, as I got all the questions you have answered in the show. But then again, I was paying attention to the show.

As for "How often does this happen in real life?" bit... 1: Probably not all that often. but it DOES happen. 2: Should we have a nice 3 hour series of Murphy shuffling paperwork and sorting his pens?

Of course this is something that doesn't happen all that often, that's kind of the point.

The point of a gritty realistic police drama, is that it be realistic, not just gritty.

The problem with the 'realism' thing is that it is _highly_ likely that _only_ those in the Police service would have any real idea of the ins and outs, and they'd _always_ know when it's not accurate. And worse yet, accuracy to the nth degree isn't necessarily good television.

What _is_ good about the show is that it takes a very serious look at how stress affects Murphy himself, and although probably done for ratings, the way the show descended from semi-light-hearted drama into the darkness it now swims in, is a really fascinating trip.

Sure some of the 5th series is a little 'unlikely' (well of course people smuggling and forced prostitution do indeed occur, and on a large enough scale that it really shows that we haven't truly evolved nearly as much as we might like to think) - it's going to have more depth if a viewer could for the time being set aside the fine toothed comb and rather concentrate on what the plot delivers in terms of the characters and their interaction. I.E. rather than questioning the likelihood of a police operative being abducted, focus on the performance the actress put in, and the grief and despair she had, and that of Murphy himself.

I really, _really_ hope there is a further series made, and it is to the same sort of standard. That said, I do concede I'd rather it left alone if the only option was to produce a further series with a subpar script (not suggesting that is the only other option at all, just saying that it's better to go out strong and leave the viewers wanting more than to (cringe) jump the shark. )
