The problem with the 'realism' thing is that it is _highly_ likely that _only_ those in the Police service would have any real idea of the ins and outs, and they'd _always_ know when it's not accurate. And worse yet, accuracy to the nth degree isn't necessarily good television.
What _is_ good about the show is that it takes a very serious look at how stress affects Murphy himself, and although probably done for ratings, the way the show descended from semi-light-hearted drama into the darkness it now swims in, is a really fascinating trip.
Sure some of the 5th series is a little 'unlikely' (well of course people smuggling and forced prostitution do indeed occur, and on a large enough scale that it really shows that we haven't truly evolved nearly as much as we might like to think) - it's going to have more depth if a viewer could for the time being set aside the fine toothed comb and rather concentrate on what the plot delivers in terms of the characters and their interaction. I.E. rather than questioning the likelihood of a police operative being abducted, focus on the performance the actress put in, and the grief and despair she had, and that of Murphy himself.
I really, _really_ hope there is a further series made, and it is to the same sort of standard. That said, I do concede I'd rather it left alone if the only option was to produce a further series with a subpar script (not suggesting that is the only other option at all, just saying that it's better to go out strong and leave the viewers wanting more than to (cringe) jump the shark. )
