Disappointing last episode!

I have loved the original series since I was about 10 years old, so when I noticed a new version had been made I made a point to avoid it so as not to ruin the original for me. That is until about 4 days ago, when I decided to watch the first episode as a joke, sort of a "well let's see just how bad this is" situation.

I was so taken aback by how wrong I was. This series is fantastic. There are some things I am unsure of where I think the continuity lacked somewhat. I don't like that they changed Lt Green to a woman (he was one of my favourite things about the original!), and it also irked me that they kept referring to eachother by their first names (didn't seem too professional I think, which took me out of the moment somewhat). I liked that Captain Black was more "human" in that he had a normal voice etc, as opposed to the original, and I especially enjoyed that they really developed his character and his relationships with other members of Spectrum. I personally found Captain Blue to be too serious compared to the original. Just some initial thoughts about the changes they made. All in all, my complaints are fairly minor.

The CGI took a couple of episodes to get used to, I think it looks a little too dated for my liking. At the same time, once I was used to it I became quite fond of it! More than anything I just loved that it gave the characters the ability to really move around and have real action scenes, something which the original was obviously lacking. The voice acting was great, the writing was pretty good (some issues with continuity and some really cheesy lines in there, but as a whole, very good!).

I was just so, so disappointed by the final episode though. I understand that it was in fact 'Dominion' which was intended as the final episode, and I know I am not alone in wishing it had aired that way - or at least that the dvds had them in that order! 'Grey Skulls' was so dull. Captain Ochre was in the spotlight while Captain Scarlet was on the sidelines, basically an extra in his own show. This would have been fine if it were any other episode (well, I still wouldn't have liked it). It is such a dud ending, absolutely pointless.

It is bad enough that we didn't get another season, but they could at least have ended the series on a more appropriate note (aka, the ending of 'Dominion'). It just left me feeling a bit angry and very disappointed.

Ah well, I'll just be here hoping for a new series or hopefully a movie in the future! This series deserved so much more praise and attention than it got, and I shall be making it my personal mission to get more people watching both it and the original. :)
