The One off Special - Viva Blackpool - Ruined the story

Am sorry if I am totally alone in this but I am soooooo disappointed at that one off special. I was really looking forward to it but it was such a disappointment.

For a start, Shyanne and Steve split! How sad! After the first series worked on their relationship so much and made us believe in their love for each other. He finally won Ripley over and they had that wonderful wedding!! For nothing

The sequel didn't even mention Steve, and Shyanne was left a single mother. As if Steve wud have allowed Shyanne to live in a grotty caravan with their child. He wud have given her and the child the house!

And she got married at the end! Again?????!!!! To a complete loser????!!!!!

And as for Ripley, from cad to priest, what the hell........?????

And as some1 else mentioned, the one off lacked so many of the fab characters from the first series. In fact Danny Holden, Ripley's son, wasn't even mentioned at all!!!!

Obviously it very much lacked David Tennant and Sarah Paris but due to Tennant being Dr Who, I didn't really expect him to be in it. And I guess Natalie and Carlisle probably started a new life somewhere new anyway I guess. But the absence of Steve and Danny really left a gap in the programme.

As for the world cup theme, well that was so tacky and not even funny. It was such a shame that they had such great actors and such a wasteful storyline

I as hoping they wud do a sequel to Blackpool but this was such a waste and completely ruined the ending of the first one for me. I for sure won't be buying this if it even comes out on DVD. I will just stick to the first fabby series!!

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else was as disappointed as me!

i was just as dissappointed as you were! as you said, it just ruined the original. it was done reallllllyy badly! poorly written, which id such a pitty considering the cast.
it took no notice of the original series.humph!

I know! David Morrisey was his usual fabby self but the script and whole programme was a waste of his time.

Shame, they really cud have done a great 2nd series

In fact I'd rather they'd have not bothered with a sequel at all if that was the only tripe they cud come up with

I agree, even thou i loved it. It was just not up to it standards.
I think it may of been the bbc or a production company trying to just get abit of money or work to fill a slot.

Otherwise i'm sure another series would of been better, but could you do another series is the question.
You got 4 people who have been married, and your just left with ripley and the son.

I agree that it ruined the original. David Morrissey was brilliant as usual but the storyline about the world cup was rubbish and Megan Dodds was terrible.

I too was a bit dissapointed as well. David is so sexy and gorgeous I'd watch him in anything but I agree it was a waste of his talent.

Why do you refer to him as a complete loser? Because he was a working class lad who didn't have a fancy job?? And the word is 'would' not 'wud' - even a working class loser like me knows that! The fact that the character of Shyanne married someone because he was a decent person with whom she fell in love with doesn't seem to count for anything in your opinion. Yes, this sequel wasn't a patch on the original series, but it gets on my nerves when people make such snobbish opinions about a character - one which they no doubt apply to people in general.
