The film notably ignored the Lillehammer affair

where Israeli assassins killed a Moroccan waiter, Ahmed Bouchiki, mistaking him for Ali Hassan Salameh.

Six of the Mossad team of fifteen were captured and convicted of complicity in the killing by the Norwegian justice system, in a major blow to the intelligence agency's reputation.

The question is: Why did Steven Spielberg cut this important event out of the film?

The Scandinavia affair was discussed in pre-production. However it was deemed anti-Semitic to include it. It was deemed as critic to the Mossad, Shin Bet & Israel and that was flat out ruled out. Israel Is free to do targeted assassinations without impunity.

This movie wasn't exactly a glowing endorsement of the Mossad either. It shows incompetence, infighting and mistakes made.

Very few people who watched this came away with a overall positive view of covert activity.
