Saying Goodbye

So, the boards are getting deleted. When I saw IMDb's notice that they're taking down the service, my first thought was about this movie, right here. Ten ears ago I wandered into this page after seeing news that there was going to be a Sweeney Todd movie. I saw all these people debating whether Johnny Depp could sing, speculating that Pirelli's song was going to be rapped(?!) and wondering just how Tim Burton-y the whole thing was going to be.

As a high schooler in the middle of nowhere who had just begun to get into musical theatre, and specifically the work of Stephen Sondheim, this page wound up becoming an invaluable source for information on musicals. Also, as a kid who lived in an area with only dialup internet in 2007, these boards were a great, low-bandwidth option for me to broaden my horizons beyond a little desert town.

For any of the old regulars, BloodyWonder, movie_mom, BestOfAllPossible, eroz0 and whoever else whose names have escaped me, thanks for being a part of this little community with me those many years ago. I don't know if anyone is still really around, but y'all were important to me, to who i was, and to who i've become. thank you thank you thank you, Isay possibly to the void, in the hopes that maybe like me, your memories bring you back here before this all disappears.

It is sad, indeed. Instead of confronting the problem, the choose to take coward's way out.

I wish I had noticed the movie earlier; it would be fun to read all those threads. Now, there are only scraps left.

There are still a few of us around. I too instantly thought of the people of this board.... Many good memories here... Peace and happiness to you all...

I had the same thought. This was the first board I ever actively read. I was a sophomore in college, and came to it as a Burton fan and discovered the musical and then Sondheim as a result and grew to love it all. I may not have posted nearly as much as everyone else, but I always kept tabs on the goings on. I'll always remember how MovieDan broke info on the board before it was published anywhere else, and rolling my eyes when the board frequenters decided to call themselves bleeders.

I was saddened a bit when they wiped nearly all of the messages from this board, since there was so much history. Obviously it's a lot worse now.
