US culpability

It may come as a surprise to the Americans on this board. IMDB is primarily a US site that the IRA was supported by funds raised in the US. This was no secret at all. The influential Irish lobby have always been exceptionally powerful in the US and raising funds for the bhoys was seen as a laugh at Britains expense.
Americans like to imagine that terrorism started on the 11th September. It did not

The US has funded terror world wide for many years. The IRA just like the Taliban. It was the Americans who funded and armed the Taliban in Afghanistan in order to kill as manmy Russians as possible. Overthrowing the Communist government. Teaching the techniques of car bombing, This is a FACT,

This fine movie is non political its against the terrorists and the politicians.

I respect those Irishman who desire a United Ireland. I also respect those Irishman who wish to stay within the UK. As so often in the past teh real culprits are the americans. The malevolent hand behind the scenes who divide and rule.

Now as I write we are witnessing the preparations for yet a further aggression which Europe is sleepwalking into. Yet another attack this time against Iran.

I have no doubt at all which country is the greatest danger to peace and no prizes for guessing

Um, do you really think you're telling any informed American anything new? And is this post helping things? Thanks sooo much for waking us all up! Hmmm, I wonder what country you're from...

Is there anyone else who has slightly mysterious bruises

9/11 was the first serious terrorist act by a foreign group on US soil.

A number of American politicians have supported the pira through fund-raising, but always on the QT.

Most funds were raised in Irish pubs in boston and new york etc, anywhere with a strong Irish-American population.

pre 9/11, it was seen has helping out the old country fight the vile English. After 9/11 england was only too happy to compare the ira with al-qaeda, further helping to demonize them in the eyes of the average American, which is when the funds dried up, likely leading to the splinter groups robbing banks in Ireland.

No one country bares any responsibility for the troubles of Ireland except the English and Irish themselves. (I guess Gadaffi does a little bit since he sent boatloads of semtex over.)

What interests me more is the use of the word terrorist and the governments use of the media to help them take away global support from a group many consider to this day as freedom fighters.

I agree with much of what you say. However, the one thing that I find sorely in error is that the United States is the main force behind every evil thing in the world. Americans have their issues within the country and without, however, there are bad seeds everywhere - in EVERY country. There is also much good in every country. If those who are good and want to live in peace then we must rise up and take our stand against the terrorist of the world no matter where they come from. Mr. Gallagher said it best in his speech at the end of the movie to the media.

Stop pointing fingers and instead take a hand and stand side-by-side others who desire a world without terror.
