About the feature on the Cornet video?

This has become one of the more confusing details of Wrestling History to me.

On this DVD when they showed it Cornet's talking about Bret whining about getting Screwed is intercut with video from his tantrum after what happened at SS97, giving the impression that's what he was referring to.

Now, maybe I'm remembering Wrong, but I saw it when it originally aired and it original aired BEFORE SS97, meaning that incident had nothing to do with it. And what he says is consistent with this as I remember he alludes to the Hogan Piper Cage match as thou it where less then a week ago tops.

Now at the time I wasn't an in the know Wrestling fan, I didn't think much of it beyond the rareness of the other Company even being acknowledged. But now I have 2 questions.

1. What previous examples of Bret being "Screwed" or at least claiming he was where being alluded to?

2. Why did they insist on throwing that revisionist History into how they presented it here.

Also a Bonus question, why not also show his video ranting about some @$$whole dissing the recently dead Pillman, I felt that was equally epic.

You are right. Around September 1997 Cornette started doing a series of commentaries on "Raw," that were, unsurprisingly, mainly against rivals in WCW.
One particular commentary happened the night after Piper/Hogan had a steel cage match in WCW. Cornette used it as a point in a larger example to go after people calling themselves "icons" of wrestling.

He said something about Bret Hart would claim to be an "icon" if he wasn't busy complaining about getting screwed all the time...But this was during Hart's heel turn during the US vs. Canada storyline. Earlier that year, Steve Austin hit Hart with a chair during a match, causing him to lose the championship to Psycho Sid. So, it was part of Bret's angry heel character to complain of being screwed all the time, especially where the American fans were involved.

I haven't seen this documentary, but i've read complaints that it is heavily slanted in WWE's favor. Cornette's icon speech was available on you tube until recently. Interestingly, in that particular version of the video on you tube, when he brings up Hart, you see video of Bret destroying the announcing area at Survivor Series 1997. But, like you indicated, Cornette made the "icons" speech BEFORE that event. I had thought that maybe it was a regular user who edited the material in later.

This is just a feeling i have on why Cornette going after that columnist might not have been included. The producers didn't want to bring up the tragedy of Pillman, which would have changed the mood of the documentary. That sports writer didn't insult Pillman. He used his death to criticize the wrestling industry.

What do you mean?

I don't know they just seemed that way, he said about them he was just venting his real opinions.

The old "Raw" commentaries were meant to be his real opinions. But keep in mind he was still a company man then. He wouldn't go after his own company as much as he did WCW.
