Jeffery Wright speaks about 'John Brown' what piece of history is that?

Remember the scene when Junior was having a talk with Jeffery's character, he told him a story about a man that hurt anothers man feelings and the judge gave him 10 years. When he ends the story he ask the boy do you understand what I am saying to you and young Reuben says yes, then no. He says something like, "you can't go around hurting white folk, even if you are white"

Then he says thats John Brown, it's history look it up. I have looked it up and cannot find anything on it, can someone that knows share with me?

John Brown was indeed an abolitionist. He is buried in New Elba, NY. I remember visiting his grave when I was a child - and I was born in Lackawanna. The John Brown farm, where he is buried. Is near Lake Placid, NY.

Thats one of my favorite scenes in the film, and the way he throws in "even if youre white" shows the depth of what people had to face for years, even whites trying to fight the system.

I loved this scene too. Jeffrey Wright is wonderful.

Indeed. In the south up until the early 60's, being a 'N lover' would get you killed faster than being a 'N'. They were much more threatening to the racist status quo.

Yes, we have noble llamas.

He was an American abolitionist who led a slave revolt in Harpers Ferry, VA in 1859, and was hanged afterwards.
