De Niro was originally going to be in the film, right?

I'm not sure if that was just a rumor/presumption given his Scorsese background or if it was true. My question is if he was slated to play Costello, because personally I think he'd have been a better match for Queenan.

Yes, he was offered this film but turned it down because he was busy with his directorial venture. And he was offered Queenan, not Costello.

I'm glad it was Queenan because I don't think De Niro can shout like Jack!
