'Why leave if you came back?'

Very interesting. Much to be made of it. Any thoughts on this line? It's really the turning point (other than Marc's song at dinner). Although something clearly happens with Bartel after the song is sung, he still is calling him "Marc" outside - until after he says this line.

My thought is that it should have been "Why come back if you left?"

What difference does that make? Moot point. Any thoughts on the meaning of the line?

reply

That line , to me , means

Why are you going to leave again, after you finally came back.

i think the line is pretty simple...in my opinion this is the point where "marc" turns into "gloria" to bartel. bartel says "why leave if you came back"....meaning, why did you leave me in the first place, if you were just going to come back...thats the way i took it, in bartels mind Gloria (marc) has come back to him, after leaving him for however long that it was. so he was just asking why did you leave me if you were going to come back to me. in other words, why did you make me suffer thinking that you had left for good.

I agree also, Marc turns into Gloria (somewhat) to Bartel during the song. The way he is looking at him etc ...

Marc was Gloria when Boris found him in the rain...

Did you guys see the other guy strung up on the cross in the last scene? Before the guy goes down in quick-sand.

It would seem that from time to time, someone sees the "Bartel Inn" sign and wanders in like flies to fly paper and the whole village do their thing.

I thought it was an interesting line as well, it seemed to be worded kind of awkwardly. Maybe it was just translated poorly.

Is it another Jesus reference?
