Children dressed in red

At around the one hour mark of the film, i think just after Bartel had tied Marc up again. Bartel heads back out through the woods and passes a group of children dressed in red just standing, kind of facing towards the camera playing with a ball (going by memory). Bartel doesn't even look or notice them as he is walking past.

What are your thoughts on that particular scene?

Or a reference to 'Don't Look Now'.

I think it was just another indication of the psychotic state Bartel was in. That joke involving the dwarves must of held a gigantic significance to him, it's the only mention he makes about his career ( or any other part of his life not involving Gloria ) throughout the movie. Everything he'd kept in the past begins to unravel once he starts to believe Marc is his wife. He can't distinguish between fantasy, and reality. So it's not surprising that an image that held such a strong significance to him materialized, in the same way ' Gloria ' had.

That is a good explanation. Thanks. I had forgotten about the joke Bartel had told Marc.

I also thought that they were supposed to be the dwarves from his joke. I got the feeling that it was the only joke he ever had.

After watching this several times, they aren't dwarfs. They are different aged children, different sizes, some taller some really small. All dressed in red coats, not football jerseys. In the credits you can see them linked as "Children in the woods" or something.

I don't think this is related to the joke, it's yet another f'ed up thing about this movie. I kinda get the whole ordeal thing and the religious things, but it's still a pretty messed up movie. Being a horror fan I wasn't really impressed, it's more of a sideshow for lilly artists, honestly.

There are so many things to be explained in this movie, I thought the internet would have something on this, but everyone is equally as clueless, except for the typical IMDB poster that says we're too dumb to understand it, but fails to give out an actual explanation.

Weird thing is where are their mothers? or mother?

Great question... No females.

They probably ran away from the crazies!

You know, I had forgotten about that completely, until the credits rolled and they were listed. And then I was all: "Ah! Yeah! What was with those kids!?"

My personal guess? Weird for the sake of weird. Had it been a callback to the dwarf joke, one would think that there would also be blue-coated children, and they would correspond to the numbers mentioned (not that I remember what those were). Crazy people are very specific about these things!

So, yeah. "It's French" is the mantra that I've often found myself taking up.

You brought to believe that hell was a place of demons and lakes of fire. But maybe hell is hellish place where men like these exist or worse, not just in rural areas, but the entire dimension?

Because who are more demon than men?
