What a horrible thing to say. I went to high school with Brooke Ellison, and she was (and is) and incredibly inspirational woman. I'm glad this movie was made to celebrate all she's achieved.

reply

Morgaine, when did you go to school with Brooke? I also went to school with her too when I lived up in Long Island. I went to Robert Murphy Junior High School from 91-93, and although I never met her personally, I saw her everyday. I remember when she had the accident, and even stood near the location where it had happened. I have a tremendous amount of respect for her, after she managed to accomplish what very few people can do. Graduating Harvard with Honors is difficult for anyone, even those without disabilities.

I also give great credit to Mr. Reeve, who has devoted his life to helping those in the same condition. He was a role model for me when I grew up on his Superman films, and I feel I can safely say for everyone that he will be greatly missed.

I'm curious as to when you went to school with her, perhaps we knew each other? If you have a free moment, please drop me a line, my email is [email protected] Thanks!

You are either an ignorant a-hole, or a heartless right-wing conservative Republican (though those two are pretty much one in the same). I have been a C 4-5 quadriplegic for 14 years and I support funding stem cell research. Not because I believe it will allow me to walk again, but because it may allow others with newer injuries to regain a signifigant increase in mobility and possibly walk. As for myself, stem cells might allow me to regain some sensation and mobility. But stem cells are not just for spinal injuries, they can be used in a multitude of injuries and diseases. Privately funded research is permitted, but why prevent federal funding for research? Why, because President Bush is a coward. He knows doing so would alienate his radical right-wingers. He claims to be a man of faith. If he were a moral man, he'd have the courage to do the right (correct) thing. If one of his daughters had a spinal injury, I'm betting he'd change his outlook.

Bush, "A compassionate conservative?"

His only compassion is to those businesses who line his and his friends pockets, and the only thing he wants to conserve is his job.

God help us if that moron is re-elected.

reply

Mr Wise,

I totally agree with what your wrote a few minutes ago. Mr. Bush NEEDS to be removed from office. I have been a registered republican all my life, but enough is enough. Mr. Bush IS a coward AND a moron. I fully and completely support federal funding for stem cell research. Whether federal or private funding, we need the money to support research into this great cause. You sir, and everyone else in this world who has suffered injuries has every right to be hopeful and to one day have the opportunity to walk again or even just to greatly improve in physical health. All those who want to talk garbage and criticize this can go to hell. I strongly support my free speech right and love to speak my mind and to stand up for what I believe in. I believe in you and I believe in your cause and the cause of so many around the world.

skylar146, why do you automatically assume that Sherri Lu is a "foreigner" in the U.S.? Have you considered the fact that "Lu" could be short for Lucy or some other name and therefore, she is not even Asian? Your comments are so racist. Especially when you said "that in our country" as if you wanted her to know that this is clearly not her country. How would you know if this is her country or not? And why would you also assume she is here on a visa? Some people of different ethnic backgrounds are actaully born and raised here in the USA. For you to go off just because you thought "Lu" was "Lui" shows your ignorance.

reply

I personally didnt hear skylar146 saying that he/she thought lu was short for loi. In my country (yes....here in scotland we consider that 'We belong to the country and the country belongs to us'-Robert Burns) we see the people. I don't like the fact that you have made this forum a political place. Please don't say anything bad against others, it goes against what Chris spent a large part of his life doing. I think stem cell research is a good thing, but personally if i wanted to talk about that I'd go somewhere where people want to hear about it. This isn't the place. This is where you post comments on a movie directed by a great man, about a great woman. Our elections are coming up soon....but I'm sure you wouldn't like me to talk about the Labour parties manifesto. I hope Im not the only one who feels that this misuse of IMDB forums has gone far enough. Anyway....: I havn't seen the movie, but I hope it gets to the UK soon. Im a great fan of Reeve. Ive went through some tough times....suicidal at times....but the Superman movies....and Chris' own insperation encouraged me to keep going. I can honestly say I doubt Id be alive if it wernt for that man. He is my hero...and always will be. Thanks Chris! (

Bush won. Get used to it. Remember elections lasting 4 months or more, though rare, require immediate medical attention.

I am so sorry for everything that has happen, I really did vote for Kerry and when he lost I cried when he was giving his failure speech. I hate Bush, I hate Dick Channy, oh I hate all those who think that stem cell research is wrong and that it has to be stopped. I loved Christopher Reeve and his wife Dana, Ellison sees like a wonderful person.

By the way, may I ask how old you are?

reply

"its not banned only the federal funding is banned"

sherri_lu:

Did you cut and paste that from whitehouse.gov all by yourself?

You know, it's rather dismissive and hectoring to call an entire film "PC crap" just because you happen to have a strong (if ill informed) opinion on one of the many issues it deals with.

Just as I would be dismissive if I pointed out that your post is just more reactionary, right-wing nonsense. Which is why I would never do that.

reply

I am so happy to see that most of you are for stem cell research. In fact so far, there has been only one (obviously uninformed individual) and I'm trying to use "politically correct crap" as they so eloquently stated, to describe this person, seems to not be interested in supporting it! How many want to bet that this person is NOT in a wheelchair?

reply

Brooke is my best friend, I am definately for SCR as I'm in a wheelchair myself. (I have CP) I do not consider myself "normal" like Brooke so I'm not looking for this for myself but for her. Get George W MORON out of office NOW!!!

PROUD DEMOCRAT!

reply

You guys Bush is not against all stem cell research, he is opposed to Embyonic Stem cell research.I dont think SCR research should be funded by the government, that should be up to people to decide.Bush thinks its okay to study adult cells that are donated w/o too much harming the donor and using the umblical cord and placenta of new borns that were taken w/o harming the child.I have read of cases where there have been sucesses with adult and new born cells.I heard of one lady who walks witha walker where as b4 she could not walk at all. Embryonic research is unethical and cheapens human life, fetal tissue SHOULD not be used period especailly if its an aborted child.if somebody wanted thier body donated for research after they die tahts fine.fetal tissue can make somebady ill,ive read a number of cases where a person had stroke after having fetal cells injected, anotehr time someone's body rejected FC the same way a body may reject a transplanted organ taht was not matched properly to the recipeint. sometimes teh fetal cells did nothing at all for a sick person.Scientists have proven over and fetal cells do not work. AS for Brooke,I admire what she does and have great respect for her even though I dont know her, I have read parts of the book and have seen the whole movie, it was wonderful, it made me cry.I do wish her the best and hope she has a wonderful life. These studies on adult stem ccells are not publicized well and need more attention, as the sucess storys are great.Maybe Brooke would benifit to some degree. Think about it, if you were a fetus would you want to be probed at and poked at in a petri dish? I don't think so! Its like people think an embryo is a thing and not a person.

reply

An embryo is not a person, weirdo. Please read JAMA -fetal brain development/fetal pain.
