God Bless Her Mother

Caretakers have an extremely difficult job. God bless her mother who practically gave up her life for her.

Me too..I remember that scene when she was finally able to go back to school and Brooke woke her at 4:30 am asking her mom if she should start getting ready for school. Her mom never complained, even when having to get up before dawn. Then her mom was the one who had to get up every 2 hours during the night to turn her to prevent bed sores.

I guess I feel differently. It would be pretty selfish of me to essentially rip my mother away from her life and make her a 24/7 slave. It'd be like, "Hi, Mom! You know, I didn't listen to you and wound up paralyzed, but that's okay 'cuz you'll just have to sacrifice it all for me now." Don't they have nurses/willing slaves for that kind of stuff? I'd rather die than do that to anyone.

akira,
who can afford 24/7 nursing care? they can't work for nothing.

i doubt anyone would expect you to care for them, you're too selfish.

she didn't ask her mother to care for her, her mother offered to do it out of love.

Brooke had a very loving mother...in fact, they all made sacrifices. But, it was all done out of Love. What a beautiful story!

It is not being selfish to live your life as you are able to do, even if it means others will have to take care of you. Brooke had a right to pursue higher education if she so chose and she was not ripping her mother away from her life. I'm sure Brooke's father and siblings visited her and her mother whenever possible.
To not help the disabled live a full and normal life-that is what is selfish.

Don't forget to credit her father also. He did not fuss and whine about her having to be away from the family or him and even being further willing to be apart from her so she could take care of her daughter at university. I coped with the situation like a true, mature man and a loving husband and father. A wonderful example for all men to follow.
