Good Movie --- Worth Seeing

My 12 year old daughter and I just watched this movie -- unable to realize the fear that the Jewish suffered. To us, this movie tried give the viewer a glimpse of the agony they lived and died with -- which of course we can't even begin to fathom.

We liked the movie - it is not what we call an 'entertaining' movie because humans controlling and murdering other humans is not entertainment -- but this to us is an awareness movie --- of what evil monsters have always existed since the dawn of time.

We liked the acting -- thought they all did great. My daughter and I aren't film critics -- but the movie had a beginning and an end; we were on edge with the Krazenbergs (sp) and the Vassmans all in between and were cheering when the Vassmans and Krazenbergs were together again. We were happy to see two families out of so many millions had managed to escape the living hell -- but scars and fears lived on with them, we are sure.

I've seen countless WW2 movies, and I still think it's a good movie.

I fully agree with you. This film won the Nashville Critics' Award and came highly recommended to me by WWII Polish families.

This film is well-done with a great cast. Well worthwhile.
I'm getting the (creepy) feeling that most - if not all - of the criticism I'm reading on these boards leveled against this film has more to do with politics than anything else.

Broadway doesn't go for boooooze and dope!

Not from me, it's not, Rando - but I have to say this movie struck me as totally phony. Obviously it's no Schindler's List, but it didn't even seem realistic to me. Perhaps the version I saw on Dish Encore had been cut about, but there were so many unresolved strands in the story, and if it was based on truth, as has been stated, there should be no unresolved parts, as apparently everyone survived.

I was especially disconcerted by the appearance ('ten years later' - i.e. must have been 1954) of the Wassman couple and their children seemingly on the balcony of their former workplace, the Krauzenberg Palace.

If indeed, this story was set in Hungary, the Russians were in total control of HUngary at that time, and I think it is extremely doubtful that a jewish couple from the new state of Israel would have been allowed back on a visit and allowed to wander at will as they seemed to be doing. No, Im afraid the entire thing, while made with every good intention, turned out ridiculous, and a bit of an insult to all those who lost their lives in that period.

Hungary pre war and port war borders were different. Also Hungary was not totally controlled by Russia.
