the book is the worst novel of all time in my opinion

I find it was boring, uninspired and had 100 adjectives for every subject.

The trailer wraps things up then the entire book.

Dragon dead.

The first book was okay, but the second book bored the hell out of me. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, I dunno.

Atuan is nice too, but yes it's not so obvious in its charms.

Farthest Shore is a bit dull, can't deny it!

First book is radiant genius of the highest order though. Great stuff.

I liked the second book the best of the four! But they were all good. Still not read the fifth one though.

I loved the trilogy when I was a kid (decades ago), maybe just because it was different from Lord of the Rings, and having been a huge LOTR fan, I was bored with all the clones. I started to re-read it recently, and I really was surprised at how pontiferous it is, how glacial in its pacing, how short on action. I didn't remember it being so dull. I have read fan comments on here about how deliciously deep the characters are, but I don't see that. Jaspar the rival, Vetch the true friend, Ogion the Wise and Silent... they are just the usual stereotypes to me. I have always thought the idea of magic being based on knowing the true names of things in the "old speech" is a supremely cool spin on the concept of magic. But in application, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Trilogy? The set of books is a Tetralogy, meaning 4.

A Wizard of Earthsea
The Tombs of Atuan
The Farthest Shore
Tehanu

I agree with the sentiment of some mega-slowness in the books though, most noticed in books 2 and 3.

1 and 4 are excellent though. (And I actually like 3)

Plus two as we now have `Tales of Earthsea` (short story collection) and `The Other Wind`.

The first 3 books were originally published 1968, 1971, and 1972. By 1977, when I bought them as a teenager, they were packaged as The Earthsea Trilogy. I am looking at them on my bookshelf. Each one says, on the cover, "1 in the Earthsea Trilogy," "2 in the Earthsea Trilogy," "3 in the Earthsea Triolgy." These are Bantam paperbacks. Inside each it says "Ask your bookseller for the books you missed: The Earthsea Trilogy: A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore." Tehanu was published much later, in 1990.

Try reading Moby Dick, that'll bore you to tears; all the preaching about how killing whales is the way things should be, and the "noble savage" ugh... I stopped reading at 1/3 of the way though.
