How do they choose their locations?

They always seem to go to some unrelated locale to whomever they are investigating. Do they search the Pennysaver for valuable cents off coupons and aim in that direction? "We are investigating the ghost of Dana Plato, her favorite restaurant was the Sizzler, so we went to their location in Cedar Rapids Iowa where she once ate Malibu Chicken"

Most of the time they can't get the families or the owners of the real places involved in the show (because of the questionable entertainment value of mediumship on television).

They can only go where they get permission to be and they won't catch much standing outside all the time.
