The horrible ending explanation by Morgan Freeman

I actually liked The War of the Worlds when I first saw it. An overwhelming alien invasion force, no chance for humanity except they succumb to our viruses and bacteria that we've evolved to now tolerate without much issue for the most part.

BUT - at the end Morgan Freeman explains that this is because "in his infinite wisdom, god decided to put those organisms on Earth" to protect us. Which is complete bs, baloney.

Besides making god a very vile person for allowing the deaths of a billion! it doesn't explain why god is just the god of earth? What about the martians? Surely, this same god protects them too?

Or maybe there is no god in reality and Morgan Freeman's explanation is utter bs, balderdash.

That ruined the movie for me - the lame ending plus the son showing up at the end which made very little sense.

Dummy dumb dumb dumb.

This is how the book ended. It was a twist ending. For the entire duration of the story, humans are being vaporized and everything looks hopeless. You, as the reader, are led to believe that there's no stopping the Martians and that humans will go extinct. And then come to find out, the bacteria wipes them out in a matter of weeks.

The ending was based on what happened in real life, except it happened the other way. Conquerors of the New World were able to wipe out entire peoples by importing diseases they had no immunity to.

It's a horrible ending indeed but for an entirely different reason than mentioning god in a poetic way, you butthurt atheist.
For me, the problem is in the fact that an advanced species of spacefaring aliens apparently never discovered microbiology when even the humans back in the 50s were well aware of such a threat.

That also bothered me as well, but it still could have been addressed within the script if they didn't mind adding some more exposition.

Take that atheist bullshit out of here. So sick of it!

Anyone who has ever watched The Twilight Zone can tell you it was really the Venusians that defeated the Martians.
