The Alien War Horns

That sound effect is damn eerie. I'm curious if anyone knows what the sound is from in real life? Is it a mixture of various sampled sounds blended together or is it synthetically created from scratch? The closest thing I can imagine is a mixture of a fog horn and a train horn, but decidedly different than either!

So I have a story to go with the sound effect, I watched this movie for the 1st time in a small town outside of Chicago, and it is a real railroad town, with trains coming and going all night long. So I got home from watching the movie and I'm still unnerved from the experience, it's a frightening film, almost even more so after you leave the theatre and start thinking about some of the horrific imagery. So I turn out the lights and I lie down and try to put the images out of my head and get some sleep when I hear the Alien War Horn right outside my window! It damn well nearly gave me a heart attack. It was of course a train nearby loudly blasting it's air horn (probably at someone on the tracks) but it took a few seconds for my terror tormented brain to come to that logical conclusion; at first I thought the Martians had come.

Hilarious! Had a similar experience on the way home (my friend and I nearly had heart attacks during the film).
We drove home through a canyon mentioning the first attack and around a rocky corner this mega truck with eight hundred lights on it came hurling with its horn blaring for some reason. We both nearly had our second heart attacks that night.

From what I remember, it's a didgeridoo combined with a tuba mixed together in an editing program.

The scariest moment of the horns was the moment before the ferry attack when the tripods were on the hill and you heard the horn and one of the legs of the tripod still moving and setting on the ground. So organic looking...so scary.

Yep, so filled with dread.

I had no idea about the horn sound when I first saw this film at the theater. It freaked me out and it was a good surprise.

I wonder if there is a cel phone ringtone with this sound?

I just googled it and it looks like there is one.
