Shutter Island?
Anybody else think of Lunacy while watching Shutter Island? I noticed a few similarities, especially at the end.
shareThe film Shutter Island sticks veryclosely to the book, so any influences were there. My own guess would be that both Shutter Island and Sileni deliberately echo the long tradfition of deranged/dubious psychiatrists going back to Cligari in cinema and much further in literature.
shareWell the plot of Lunacy is partially based on Poe's story "The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether". I'm not sure how common this theme was in Poe's day or if Poe helped to popularize it, but considering how common it's become since then, I doubt Shutter Island, the book or the movie, has any link to Lunacy or Poe's story.
