LOST is a good movie

It's a scary scenario executed with maximum suspense, and it elicits dread, which forces the viewer to experience the plight of the main character. And the ending was brave. To ignore all of that, and focus only on individual lines of dialogue or whether the guy was using a cell phone or a satellite phone, is ridiculous. LOST was gripping to watch, and has stuck with me to some degree since I saw it about a year ago. I'd say that's an accomplishment. I look forward to more films from writer/director Darren Lemke.

Terrible film, it was totally obvious how it was going to end even to the point of not seing him killed.

1/10 dont waste 90 minutes on this trash.

I have to agree Pedro.

Lost could and should have been so much more.

The plot was fairly original but certain scenes verged on the ridiculous.

The most memorable example is where Jeremy managed to push the stranded Ford pick-up truck back on to the road after hitting the flood.

How much do trucks like that weigh? In excess of 2 - 3 tonnes I'd guess and it wasn't a moderate incline either. Totally implausible in my opinion, even for someone who was very well built / muscular.

In the grand scheme of things that was a small detail that I'd normally overlook as a lot of movies have some unrealistic feats like that.

The real problem I have with "Lost" is there was just one too many scenes that lacked credibility / realism. Scenes where Jeremy did things that I don't believe the average person would do if faced with the same situation. He was far too trusting of Judy and was obviously oblivious to the fact that his cell phone would have led the police to his location.

If the above faults weren't bad enough we had the "unreliable American vehicle that just won't start (especially when someones life depends on it)" cliché at the end of the movie.

Why do so many directors / script writers insist on using that?

I agree with the above in that this has to be one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. I find this frustrating because the basic plot is not bad and Dean Cain does a pretty good job of it, especially considering how constantly stupid his character is all the way through.

The thing I find implausible is this guy must be fairly intelligent to have made it to some kind of bank managment role, and then mastermind a pretty clever robbery of his own bank? To then see him blatantly leave clue after clue of how to find him is just plain dumb in my opinion and this completely unhinges the rest of the plot.

I suppose his numerous stupid slip-ups are what leads to his inevitable downfall, but I would have thought that a guy who just committed a pretty audacious robbery would at least take the following precautions:

1. Don't destroy all your good planning of the actual robbery by having a poor escape plan involving driving into the middle of a desert with poor directions to meet some guy with a plane.

2. Don't drive a shiny new executive car in the back of beyond as it sticks out like a sore thumb.

3. Don't rely on some random woman to help guide you to your destination and don't give her all your personal details.

4. If a cop continously catches up with you and does you for littering, don't proceed to wrecklessly throw all your bank robbery evidence and travel plans out of the car on a deserted highway.

5. Don't renew your trust in the aforementioned woman who, on learning of your crime, unexpectedly phones you because she is suddenly sympathetic to you being lost.

There are also numerous bonkers situations like how the truck that overheated seem to fix itself after he hid behind the billboard and he had no further problems. Also, he hit a big flood at like 85mph in a rusty old truck and suffered no obvious injuries and then just pushed the truck out of the flood and carried on his way??!!

The ending was one of the most predictable of any movie I have seen. It is so obviously coming from about midway through.

As has been mentioned, it is just that the film seems to lack any credibility or sense that really unravels it.

"Lost" is a good movie, and obviosly a very underrated one. It is hard to believe the low rating it has in comparison with the high ratings given to undeniably crappy movies at the same Mac'Donalds rental stations (Man From Earth, Final Contact, Sunshine, Condemned, etc). A good movie deals with realistic people in not so ordinary situations.
First the good news, and why the four of the five points made by homercles don't even begin to make sense.

1.the plan was never well concocted. And in real life, real crooks are stupid. I grew up with enough. And just as in real life, the thugs were too proud and arrogant to accept advice and planning from the better educated people. This is extremely true to life. After the robbery, when the plan is ended, as in true life, with true life crooks, there is no plan. The two bank workers obviously wanted a plan, but were thwarted by the arrogance of the thugs, which also made the two bankers act erratically and emotionally.
2.A shiny car in the sticks may have stood out 50 years ago, but no more, not by any stretch of the imagination. The richest people in America today aren't the white collar workers, but the people who took shop in high school and who dropped out and learned real trades. No, no car would stand out any where, except for a poor city area.
3. Relying on a random person was preferable to someone who appeared for a reason he couldn't be sure of. He knew the lady was at a car rental agency, and while it was obvious to the viewer that someone was setting him up and moving signs around, and she was the most obvious selection, it would not just jump into your head in a live situation while your driving lost and trying to find your way. Remember, the hero didn't know he was a character in a film.
4. The littering after being stopped by the cop was one of the few weak points of the movie. I didn't buy that. It was too Indiana Jones like. Then, again, it was a spare of the moment decision. Still, this is one point I agree with homer on. It doesn't fit the character that well.
5.By the end, we know the car rental lady is setting him up, but as I said, it would take a while for that to register in real life. Remember when you were living a life of mayhem, and you were being set up? You didn't know it then, but in later years, when you add things up, you would know. He is lost and desperate at this point, and exasperated, and the film clearly shows this.

As for the radiator getting hot and cold, if you have ever driven old vehicles, you would know there is no explaining this. This happens all the time. Mechanics will lie and say there is always a logical explanation, but experience teaches you different.

The bad news is the scene with the cop by the billboard, which was the only true predictable Hollywood movie ingredient. It was a "groaner" that belong in an otherwise worthy movie. Since that was the only poorly written scene, I would feel it nitpicking to dwell on it.

I agree it is a good movie. I gave it 8 of 10. Anyone who didn't buy into the characters or situation is probably too young to have enough experience in real life events. Wait a few years, until after you've experienced many personal ordeals, and then watch this. You'll appreciate it more.

My compliments to everyone involved in making this movie. Don't feel bad that iI only gave it an 8. I grade tough, and reserve higher grades for the more inspirational movies. This is just a genre I don't give high grades to.

yeh i thought it was good.

but i got a little confused with the ending, who was Judy working with?

Archer or the cops?

reply

pretty crap

one of the worst movies ive seen

reply

I thought it was good. Considering it had a first time director, a considerably low-budget and Dean Cain as the staring role.

Ramones, the best band ever.

reply

You know nothing about good movies if you think this is the worst. Go watch White chicks or scary movie then tell me this is one of the worst.

She was working with Archer. He offered to cut her in on the stolen money he was to get back from Jeremy.

Agreed. This was a damn good thriller with a bang-up lead performance by Dean Cain, loads of tension, a clever and twisty plot, and inspired use of the desert locations. 8 out of 10 from me.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!
