The worst sex joke in film history....

When Kutcher's character tells his girlfriend, "Now I'm gonna show you the 'breast stroke'"...Holy God, that line killed the entire movie for me. Not that it mattered, the film seemed to be an excruciatingly long commercial for the Coast Guard.

when did he say that lol?

Now come on, I'm sure there's a porn or two with a worse sex joke than that.

LOL, if thats the worst sex line you have heard in films then you obviously havent seen many films. That line wouldnt even make the top 100. The worst sex line in film history easily goes to American Pie. When the one guy is sitting in the car with that college girl and he says. "Suck me Baby" followed by "My frieds call me Nova, as in Cassanova". The Breaststroke comment doesnt even begin to compare. I could easily think of a ton of others that were far worse but whats the point.

Anyone who lets a single line ruin an entire flm should just stay away from films altogether especially considering that pretty much every film ever made has at least one or 2 bad lines in it. The bottom line is that this was a very authentic film about Coast Guard rescue swimmers. Then again no film can please everyone especially on IMDB. These sorts of comments are to be 100% expected.

The line was actually "Suck me, Beautiful."

"Yeah, they're dead, they're all messed up"

Actually, if you watch the commentary, the director states that line was not scripted, but an ad lib joke by Ashton that they decided to keep in the movie. Considering I've watched probably over a thousand movies in my lifetime, I can't recall now a stupid 'sex joke' from a movie...but I know there are hundreds out there...if you think this is 'the worst' I'm guessing you don't watch a lot of 'the 40 yr old virgin' type movies (some of those jokes in that film were stupid and unfunny)!
And, joke aside...with so many movies that celebrate cops, firemen, soldiers, marines, airmen from the AF, a movie about the USCG is long overdue and deserves to be recognized by the movie industry. I, for one, didn't know how much sacrifice is involved by those who serve in the Coast Guard. I don't think the general public is aware, especially about their motto 'SO OTHERS MAY LIVE'.
From what I've read and heard from Coast Guard members, yes..there is some movie license in the movie, but it's supposedly a very close, very accurate depiction of what they do, how incredibly difficult it is for the members and their families..AND they deserve the much needed recognition!! So what if it seems like 'an extremely long commercial' for the USCG? If you couldn't figure that out before watching it, you shouldn't have bothered to view it. AND, furthermore, if you watch the movie as its intended to be watched, you'll understand it is a character driven movie as well as a peek into the world or rescue swimmers. I am 100% absolutely in awe that there are men and women willing to jump into the frigid Bering Sea to save the life of a stranger while risking their own lives!!! My hats off to the Coast Guard, Thank you for your service and Amen to you!

What made the line so awful was how terribly out of place it was. Yes, I don't watch a lot of idiotic films which are filled to the brim with terrible sex jokes, and I am proud of that fact. I thought the line was horrible because it was placed in a drama, one which was supposed to be moving. It provides proof of how poorly written the film truly is.

reply

First of all, the line adds some comic relief, even if just a little bit and it was kind of funny, even if a bit cheesy.

Secondly, "How poorly written the film truly is"? The joke wasn't scripted, but Ashton made it up on set. So, NOTHING to the with the writing of the film.

Almost every war movie with US military in it is an ad for the military. I think the coast guard which I regard 10s of times more valuable and noble in their work deserves one movie!

reply

The reason it's a bad joke is that it's way too obvious and easy for anything having to do with swimming. Good jokes are clever and require some wit.

Now, if he'd said, "Help, I'm going down!"... :-)

Never believe anything that comes out of Hollywood.

For what its worth. The Rescue Swimmer motto is a variation on the older USAF Pararescue motto of "That Others May Live". While the US Navy Rescue Swimmer program was probably the main source of information when the USCG started their program, the USAF PJ's have been doing the same mission for a long time. In fact, in the movie "The Perfect Storm" it is an Air Force PJ from the NY ANG (TSgt. Alden "Rick" Smith) who died when the helicopter crashed attempting the rescue of the familiy on the sailboat.
