Backdraft Comparison

In the ending of the Guardian I noticed that it seemed a lot like some of the aspects in the ending of Backdraft.

Here is what I noticed:

The Guardian - Randall, who has hung up the swimming flippers, is hanging out at the base packing up his stuff, hears on the radio overhead of the escalating rescue operation and is eventually compelled to put on the flippers once more to save the day.

Backdraft - Brian, who has hung up the ax, is hanging out at the fire hall packing up his stuff, hears on the radio overhead of the escalating 3 alarm fire and is eventually compelled to put on the boots one more time to go save the day.

The Guardian - Fish is hanging on for both of them from the cable and Randall is slipping out of his grip and eventually sacrificing his life so Fish can live. Fish states, "I'll never let go."

The Guardian - Brian is hanging on for both of them from the severed catwalk and Bull is slipping out of his grip and eventually sacrifices his life so Brian can live. Brian states, "I'll never let go."

Does anyone else agree? Find this odd? Or just a coincidence?

I think you need to rewatch Backdraft.

William Baldwin went to that fire to confront Scott Glenn. Baldwin watched Kurt Russell fall from a distance and he fell because he wouldn't let go of Scott Glenn. Pretty much the oppisite of what happened in the Guardian.
