Divorce Paper Scene??

In the scene were Randall hands his wife the divorce papers, he compares their relationship to a case he had a while back were a man was dragging his wife under trying to stay afloat, is this in reference to the first scene of the movie were the man pulled his wife out of the basket to be the first one lifted out of the water?

Yes it was. Randall compared himself with that guy because he found out that he was also dragging his wife under.. making her miserable for the most part of the time, leaving her every other day to rescue other people, while in fact his marriage needed to be saved in the first place.
