Horrid Movie

This movie was HORRIBLE. Just a ridiculous and stupid film. For one thing, this movie purports itself to be the story of Andrei Chikatilo when in fact it has nothing (NOTHING!) to do with him. It's a ludicrous story about a man with magic hypnosis powers who kills people becuase communism is falling. Where did he get the magic powers? I don't know, because this movie doesn't freakin tell you. This movie also doesn't convey why anyone does anything......Argh. This movie sucks. Avoid it at all costs.

I have to disagree. Malcolm McDowell was fantastic. His portayal of Andrei Chikatilo made Hannibal Lektor look like a teddy bear by comparison. It is a chilling story that will make your blood run cold, and is worth a watch. Not the greatest movie ever, but certainly not horrible.

This dude Andrei used to walk away from the crimescene chewing on testicals. In comparison to reality, Malcolm is a teddy bear. The way his character was built he certainly made the most of it, but could/should have been alot nastier. The hypnotic power that the character seemed to have is obviously a creation by the director, even tho Malcolm almost hypnotised me. The thing is ofcourse KGB´s involvement thrueout the movie. The connection is hardly vague, since they time and again halted the investigation of Evilenko, the characters that could not "remember" his face were obviously connected with that fact. and probably were so in reality too. The soldier for instance that had written down his name (his job) but was reluctant to admit seeing him was a clear evidence of that. There is alot to this movie that arn´t "there" for your eyes. And is most certainly worty of a watch, more so if you like to use your head.

EvilEnko is GREAT movie, close to maybe SOTL or Boston Strangler
Citizen X is b-grade straight to video compared to EvilEnko. Malcolm McDowell is scary as cannibal and has magic hypnotic eyes, he can see inside the victim and lead away. The score is like Twin Peaks maybe but whole movie was Peaksish so it fit in really good with the 'feelings' of the movie. Marton Cosscoss was good as the lead communist detective and when he is grilling Evilenko he uses all of his skills as a detective to turn the cannibal on himself, not litraly but in his own mind....
I don't want to ruin the ending for those of you who havent seen but is really scary with the last look at the eyes of the cannibal like dr hannibal Lecter who was also insane with schizoprenia like Chickatillo was and ate people, they are kind of the same in other ways too, both killed for to teach people why they believed what they did and had deep relationships with their invesigators like with Starling and the Marton Cocstiks character from the Andrei Evilinko story that was based on the book of the name "The Communist who Ate Children" by the writer/director Richard Greeco.
I would say be really aware of the similarities with SOTL, but judge Evilenko on it's own too cause both are having their own takes on the disease of schizophenia and it is important to look at the evil in the world as well as the good.

Okay. Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting really sick of everyone saying how great this movie was. There was plenty wrong with it. Secondly, can ANYONE spell "Chikatilo" properly? Jesus, no wonder you all thought this movie was good.

hi
it's a joke, dude. take a deep breath.

I thought this film was okay, though certainly not great. I watched it at the Bradford film Festival and the director, Malcolm McDowell and Marton Csokas were all there to talk about it. The director said that this was not ABOUT Chikatilo merely inspired by him. He basically took the crimes and made up the man. McDowell did the film because he was friends with the director, rather than because he thought it was the best script ever. I think it could have been better, had Greico passed on the directing torch to someone more experienced.

haven't seen the movie, but i was pretty shocked when i found it using power search... with malcolm???? wtf? i'm not going to see this movie simply because i know enough about chikatilo just as most russian people do.

first of all, he wasn't a magician, BUT he was a great psychologist, that bastard... hypnosis? i don't know but he was using some trick that's a fact.

some of you say this movie is strange and freaky... mr. chikatilo was a freak. yes, he was eating balls and dicks etc... he pierced victims' eyes and jerked off watching victims die (sorry for these details)... and now your sayin this movie is strange???

from russia with love :)

I don't think this movie was horrible at all! I watched, and just the thought that all of those things really happend, gave me chills!

Besides, there are movies that are much worse then this one (Dahmer, Ed Gein, Bundy etc.)

I actually thought Ed Gein was better than this film. This film gives the impression it will tell true story of the serial killer from his point of view, but instead the only thing they seemed to keep was the very basics of the real main, namely how he looked. This movie was a big disappointment, especially because Malcolm was in it, he was the sole good part. And the ending interogation scene was completely over the top. I can't believe the director is trying to pass most of the movie off as fact since he used to be a journalist and supposedly met the real serial killer many times. The whole "decline of communism" reason for killing was over the top too, the main didn't do it because he was being forced out of his government, he was doing it because he was a sick man that only got pleasure from killing. At the end of Citizen X they have a shrink say what made the serial killer tick and I had no problem believing that, with the movie I couldn't believe one thing that was going on.

Do yourself a favor and see Citizen X it is one of the best movies about a serial killer out there and it stays true to the true events as it was based on the book that was co-written by the detective that caught the real serial killer.

I will check out Citizen X. Thanks!

The only good thing about this movie was the soundtrack.
