Wonderful Movie

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought Debra Winger's performance was amazing, and Dawn Anna's story was truly inspirational.

I find it strange, as I read some of the other posts on this board, that anyone would have thought this movie was "about" the Columbine shootings. I would think the title "Dawn Anna" and the description that was attached, would clue people in to the fact that the story was about Dawn Anna, her family and her struggle to come to terms with the senseless loss of her daughter.

I was actually quite pleased that it didn't go into much detail on the events at Columbine, as anyone with a television has heard more than enough about what happened there and the boys that made such a tragic choice. Society is best served by wiping out any reference or memory of those boys, and take nothing from that situation but a lesson in protecting kids from bullying, providing adequate treatment and oversight to kids with mental health issues and more stringent requirements for people who have firearms in their homes.

It seemed to me that those who expressed disappointment seemed to have a ghoulish fascination with violence, and were only watching to be voyeurs to the evil events that played out on that day, with little interest in the actual human beings that were affected by such a pathetic cowardly act.

Dawn Anna is truly a hero, as she overcame her own personal tragedies to reach out to our communities regarding school violence and gun control.

Great post, Kate. You may have long left IMDB by now, but I'll answer anyway. I agree with what you say.

Dawn Anna has used this tragedy to bring beautiful things of it, with her reaching out to make changes with school violence, bullying.

I liked this movie alot too. It's sad that so many are morbid voyeurs to the events of the tragedy, that they ignore the human beings who were affected, and changed forever. This movie simply depicts how a family was affected by the loss of their child and sister, and wisely didn't get into too much on the shooting itelf.
