The Finney Musical

Is better in my humble opinion.

Yes, but this is quickly becoming one of my favorite versions (although Fezziwig's Annual Christmas Ball" and "Dancing on your Grave" pale in comparison to "December the 25th" and "Thank You Very Much" (my favorite "Scrooge" song) IMHO). The best songs in this one are "Jolly Good Time", "Lights of Long Ago", "God Bless us Everyone", "A Place Called Home", and "Christmas Together."

Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men?

The Albert Finney version has been my favorite since I was a kid and it still is. I was afraid the new musical would stink, but it was pretty darn good too.
In the end of the new one I choke up when Scrooge goes to his nephew's house for forgiveness and the nephew sings "There's a place in my heart where you've always been.."

One thing I like about this version is that it has a redemption song. "Scrooge" had one, too, but the one in "A Christmas Carol" is prettier to sing along to.

Albert Finney's version is MUCH MUCH MUCH better!!!

I agree that the Finney musical is much better than the Grammer one. But, A Place Called Home is my favorite song from the two, so I guess that count for something in my book.

I think this version is much better than the Finney version. The only song in the Finney version I liked was "Thank You Very Much". I love almost all of the songs in this one.

(BTW, It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again)

I h
aven't seen this Kelsey Grammer version but I have seen the Finney version almost every year for the last 15 years. I just bought the DVD version and enjoy it (and cry) as if I was seeing it for the first time---everytime I watch it. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!

I never saw the Albert Finney version until this year. It is good--I love the shopping scenes with the Cratchetts. I rank the Cratchett Children in the 1970 movie the best of all the Cratchetts. They all seemed to resemble each other.

But overall, I like this version better. Maybe because I saw this one first.

I completely agree! The Finney musical is by far my favorite adaptation of the story. Finney is the greatest Scrooge and the songs just can't be beat -- Thank You Very Much, Father Christmas, I Like Life, December the 25th and on and on.

I've tried to watch this Kelsey Grammer version several times but it just falls flat for me. I don't buy him in the role, the songs are mediocre at best and the whole thing lacks an authentic look.
