I loved this movie. This was the best love story I have ever seen. I just wish that they had casted a better looking Tea Cake. No offense, but I think the movie would have been a little better had Tea Cake looked more like the description in the book. Perhaps Tyrese Gibson would have made a better looking Tea Cake, but maybe the chemistry would not have been as strong.
shareI think Michael Ealy was fine for what they went for. To be honest I think he was perfect for what they went for. I'm probably biased though as I'm a fan and happen to think he's practically gorgeous. You're definitely right about the chemistry which moved this film along. I only enjoyed this as much because of Ealy. The rest of the actors were good as usual, but considering the two leads have to carry the movie, it's a good thing he was in it. Halle was ok but if both leads were just ok I wouldn't really like this movie.
Tyrese is not a good enough actor, he just wouldn't be convincing for that time period and I think his arrogance would show through too much. He is good looking though, and back then I guess he was a little less conceited.
Perhaps you are right. The only reason I thought of Tyrese is because of the books physical description of Tea Cake. But I suppose that doesn't matter much.

shareI think his skin color does matter, especially when you think how he beat Janie to show to everybody that he was the one in control because of all the talk that because of his skin color, he wasn't good enough for her.
it's possible that they didn't want to stretch the movie any longer, but including this part, but at least they should have tried harder to find a dark skinned brother to play Tea Cake, no offense to Michael Ealy who did an amazing job, but skin color matters not only in this movie but in life too.
Girl Michael Ealy is fine as hell. What were you looking at? Did you see the scene where they got down? lol. Don't mind me, I'm just rambling. If you were saying that they should have had a 'Tea Cake' that was as described in the book, then I agree. But better looking? Girl no, Michael Ealy makes me sweat even if he is just blowing his nose. LOL.

I thought Micheal did an amazing job as Tea Cake. The chemistry was definitely there between the two. Maybe that's why he got that part.
