Did not like it at all...

I'm sorry, but in my opinion this was one of the worse foreign movies I've seen.
The directing was poor, the editing was poor, poor cinemtography and overall it was slow.
This is one of the few films where I didn't really care for the characters. They were completely underdeveloped. Ok, the kid had schizophrenia, but he seemingly suffered from one side effect (emotional) the woman had a limp, but that was never explained, people came about, settings flashed by, but you never gain a clue of who's what and where they are, forcing the audience to assume things a few times too many.

I think you need to stick to films more apt to your IQ, like Fat Albert or American Pie. Is ok if you didn't like it, we understand. Have a good day.

reply

Naw B, this film was just bad!

reply

Good grief. Just because someone doesn't like a film, doesn't mean they are an idiot. I find that people who wear their IQ on their sleeve are usually compensating for a lack of something else. I don't care to guess what that is in your case though, V. Your response is typical though to anyone that pans any film on this site. Its always because someone is too stupid to "get" it. Whatever.

I enjoyed the film, but that doesn't mean that I have to get all offended if someone else does not. Not all of us have the same tastes in film.

reply

Hey, I've never thought the day will come when I'd defend an American who is (as most of them are) attacking foreign movie. I've written maybe more posts against American attitudes and manners than many of you have seen movies so far; and I confronted their arrogant imperious overwhelming position which is showing the rest of us that whatever our countries make is worthless, including us. (And yes, my dear American friends, I don't forget you and your significant number of posts that show me how many of American people don't agree with this hostile brain-washing cultural and mental aggression coming from your country).

But I have to react on this unnecessary rude and offensive reply. The opening post was not a (quite frequent) spitting on "foreign" movie. The poster told us what he/she felt, what he/she disliked, there were explanations, and we may agree or not, so we are free to write contraarguments, but attacking a poster can only prove what Americans are already sure, that all of us abroad are a mass of primitive members of savage tribes.

Also, I don't think an average American Pie etc. fan would 1) watch a movie like this, 2) understand what it's all about, 3) be able to write more then one sentence about it (something like 'Don't watch this rubbish', or more likely 'Stay away or u'l regret cuz its not ourz'). So, as you can see, your post was completely out of space.

What's there to explain about a limp for God's sake??? Are we supposed to have a flashback into her childhood days when she was recruited as a fighter and injured by Schizo's mother in the ring?..

Come on, how often are things "explained" to you in real life? "Oh, but where did you get this limp, baby? We can't go on until I find out!"

I think it's funny when idiots try to watch foreign films and then try to figure it all out! Keep these comments coming, please! (Btw for thinking adults who can read subtitles and know the first thing about cinema, 'Schiza' is a very unique, beautiful film, that contains much symbolism and a truly offbeat style, and features some fascinating characters as well!)

reply

I think I sufficiently explained myself 4 years ago. And you know what? I still hate the movie.

Way to be a snob who automagically reads into a person's psyche depending on whether or not they liked a foreign film.

P. S. I know a thing or two about cinema, and Shiza is incompetent.

I bet you take all movies with subtitles in high regard?

reply

Why is "Shiza" incompetent? Because it's low-budget, or because it has no big-name actors? And no, i think many foreign films are awful, especially the ones that try to mimic Hollywood. One thing is for sure though, i would rather sit through the worst Russian film of all time, (with the titles turned off) than be forced to watch some manipulative, politically correct hollywood crap like "The Blind Side," films that were made for one reason: to make a profit. Other countries still consider film an art form. Isn't that refreshing? Films like "Shiza" were not made with box office profits in mind, as films outside of the US are sponsored by their respective governments, rather than some rich fat slob who doesn't care about the product, as long as it makes a buck. Whoever made this film "Shiza" had to know from the start that it wouldn't be a money-maker, it was made for the passion of the art of film making; something that no longer exists in Hollywood. You "know something about cinema" than you already know this. There is a certain noble quality in films like this, and it is always good to see glimpses of different cultures, and to look into the lives of people that we might never meet in our lifetimes. That is what i like about foreign film in general. I'm sick of hearing about crap like "Avatar." I mean really, who will give a sh!t about some lame 3-D "gimmick" film a year from now?

reply

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and do a re-make of this film and show us how it should have been done.

reply

I liked it because it showed a country and way of life in that country I never saw before. It was low budget, or seemed to be. It was just not your type of movie, everyone has different types of films they like.
