DVD 5.1 sound issues - not mixed right?

Verified my sound is working properly - digital out from DVD to tested HT setup. Tried both 2.0 and 5.1 on DVD - center channel completely turns off and all sounds go to both front channels instead. Menu works thru center - but 5.1 sounds like it was put onto the disc backwards at least. Anyone else having problems? Tried 2 dvd players to verify. Was hoping someone had heard about a problem before my customers start complaining. Thanks...2.0 works fine though.

I have the same problem. No center sound. I switched to regular stereo and still had weak sound. The dialogue was inaudible.

Doesn't seem to be a problem - check out link below

DVD talk review
"Sound:
This DVD has a really solid 5.1 Dolby soundtrack with good levels and clear tones. There is also a more basic 2.0 mix and English closed-captioning..."

I emailed the author to see what his setup options are. I checked with two other stores that had same issue on the 5.1 only...am trying to narrow down what might cause the discrepancy. So far the only difference I have noted is on home theater setups with 5 channels...one customer did not have a problem but was only using the front two channels with the TV as a center (and had chosen 5.1).

Mostly I just want to be able to keep the customer happy when they gripe at me - maybe try and give them a temp solution for watching the film, ie: watch in 2.0 or tweak the system/sound to watch via TV sound only.

I went back in after reading your suggestion of playing it under 2.0 and it worked. Of course I prefer surround, but this wasn't really the kind of film with fancy sound FX that would be ruined by listening on 2 channels. There's definitely a manufacturing defect on some of these. It's too much of a coincidence for the exact same problem to be reported by multiple users.
