Amazing Film

This was a great film, a coming of age in the late 70s. It was marketed as a 'what if you could hook up with the hottest girl' When it reality, thats only an aspect of the film. Lead Henry Nearing is a lost youth, unsure of how to grow up after his mom dies. His family is suffering, they've lost the person who held their family together, now without Mom, they spiral into a depression. Henry's brother claims solace by getting high. Ignoring life tragedy, he hits the open road, with his bohemain ideals. His dad trys to keep his wife's presence in his life by adopting her hobbies. In the process, he starts to self destructive

Henry trys to free himself, by no longer taking responsibilty for his action.
He drops out of school. He decides to spend his time courting Grace Chance, a sparkly vixen who teases him. Soon, they begin a thrill driven relationship. But the passion soon burns out for Henry.

The only solid relationship he has is with his best friend Merna. Over the course of the film, she hints at her attraction to him, but he remains oblivous, he does;nt the see how valuable their relationship is until the final twenty minutes of the film. Its Merna's words, that finally wake him up, if his future seems bleak, its up to him to change it. He flys off to discover his future.

All and all great movie, depicting a family who have lost the family dynamic, sense of security in life, frighten by the prospects of unknown future.

It was an all right film...Gregory Smith is a real find and Ashley Johnson was wonderful, but this film had a real "been there done that" feel to it...it just seemed to cover way too familiar cinematic territory. I kept thinking as I was watching this, "This movie was better when it was called SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL."
