Watched The DVD Last Night And...

would like to know what others thought about it.

reply

I've seen the movie in the theater twice already. I loved it and am definitely buying the dvd as well as the soundtrack. I'm curious though how did you watch the dvd? It is not due to be released until March 21?

reply

I work for a magazine which reviews DVDs, and watched it in order to write a short summary. I found the story enjoyable, but for some reason I didn't follow the flashback sequences when they actually happened. I thought Bonnie Hunt was perfect. Thanks for responding.

Didn't find it for sale at Best Buy, Circuit City, Borders, Barnes & Noble, or Blockbuster.

But I did find it for rental at Blockbuster.

Hopelessly in love with Uma Thurman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Emmy Rossum

Hey, Patrick...I believe you can buy it online at Video Universe or Strand Releasing.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

To my understanding, the three plot lines begin on the same day of the year, but on three different years (1999, 2000 and 2001). Mark and George meet in 1999, while the story of Elizabeth's renewed contact with her son begins in 2000. Since in the latter, Ruth lets her know that Mark has been staying at the same place for a year, you may assume that Mark does stay with George, though we're not told what happens to bring this about, we've know clue as to the how or why (as George's character so beautifully puts it, that is one of the most meaningful questions and it hardly ever gets asked)...

You can find further support for this in the fact that the last line of plot, the one entailing the birth mother, also lets you know that Mark died at the same place where he's met George two years earlier. I also wanted to point out that it's possible she started to look for Mark when he was no longer around (we know that around the same time in 2000, he was already dying).

I used to have a , but damnit do I want a !

Saw it three times in the movie theater. I went because I'm a Bonnie Hunt fan, but really everyone in the movie is great. I've got the DVD now and I've watched it twice already. I still cry.

Yeah, this movie is pretty good. It reminded me of Junebug, another great movie.

Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It's contrast.
